A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

Thanks!!
Well, since I was born there, I can always claim it!
Reno probably has more people now than the entire state did when I was born, but that’s because neon lights weren’t a thing, yet. ;o]
I didn’t do it on purpose, honest!
I’ll do what I want! And I did!
I saw the perfect shirt in the perfect color for you, but I didn’t know if you wanted another Zion shirt.
Walmart is now open seven days a week at 0600, so there is an improvement, of sorts! At least I’m not confined to the day after laundry day to do my shopping.
I really raced through the store this morning, almost as if it were 0400! I was done and at the check-out lane at 0620! The rest of the next 30 minutes was loading, driving, unloading and putting away. At least it got the blood pumping!
There are little things to be done today, but they all count, I guess.
One Zion shirt is sufficient, but it was a nice thought.
Every little thing counts!
I have achieved sending information out to the Day Camp attendees, with a little help from a teenbro.
I figured, which was a good deterrent! I saw a Hurricane shirt in the same color but I didn’t like the sentiment. It was rather sappy.
The pill sorting has been done and when today’s dosages are done with, I’ll re-do them, and next week, the pill sorting will be done on Wednesday. I need to quit cramming so much into one day!
There are some other little things that need to be done, but not just yet. The back tells me to set a spell and percolate, as my mother used to say. ;o] Her folks came from Appalachia, so no doubt that’s where she got a lot of stuff that I can’t seem to get rid of...
I’m writing about rodents of the Sonoran Desert, among other distractions and discrepancies.
That’s got to be tough. Teenbros are very distracting when they’re needy.
I just re-read the email from Cousin Doug and he won’t be here until Sunday, but his ETA is late afternoon. I need for him to change that to earlier that day or on Monday. This will take some thinking because I’m not sure my brain is up to writing a nice letter to an intruder. I don’t want to make it any later than tomorrow, lest he be too fixated on the date and time he’s chosen.
Unngh.
I’m going to watch a dinosaur movie in between doing things.
Dinosaurs are relaxing. I’ve finished with Sonoran desert rats. Tarantulas are next, but I’m thinking of nap first.
I’m packing, in between dinosaurs, then I’m done for the day.
Enjoy your nap!!
See ya after the dreams with a kitty. ;o]
“12. Many major roads just end abruptly in somebody’s garage, a Home Depot, a Casino or McCarran International Airport Runways...”
LOL!
Truth! One of them ended at a brick wall! Cinder block wall to be exact. My son found it by “accident” one night. On the other side of the wall was Rancho Drive, on the way out of Vegas toward Reno.
It was fixed within two years, but still, it was when Vegas was growing so fast that 50 miles of new streets went in every month. The post office couldn’t keep up, and Front Boy, the map book makers, had to print new editions every month to make sure the streets were current.
Interesting times, those 30 years! The growth isn’t so fast now, (when I left) but at least it’s somewhat predictable!
Jake was happy to see me, but eventually he was ready to get up. Otherwise we might have lost the whole afternoon!
Golly!
While you slept, I got five more boxes packed. They weren’t very large, but they were still boxes! Tomorrow, I’ll finish up the paperwork stuff because it has to be done. I will also go to the library, but by then, I plan to be done with the paperwork.
Somehow, one item didn’t make it home with me, so I may have to go back to Walmart tomorrow and talk to them about it. It irritates me when that happens.
You’re a ball of fire compared to me! I’m going to produce another paragraph about tarantulas and then work on supper.
When I feel up to it, I have to do it. The rest of the time, CFIDS turns me into a slug.
The adage, “Make hay while the sun shines,” applies.
Once I get the paperwork taken care of, about the only things left are what’s in the pantry and the miscellaneous stuff. I can’t decide whether to toss the latter into a box, crate or tub!
At any rate, the hard part is nearly over with. I will have to pack the Galileo in a tub with some linens, along with the Admiral Fitz. The barometer may have to be junked if I can’t find a way to get the calcium, alkali and other mineral crust out of it.
Something of interest, maybe?

Cool!
I finished with the tarantulas. Time to chop vegetables.
Good mor ... er ... good afternoon!
Good heavens! 2 un-Fridays in a row. What is going on around here?
I hope all is well with everyone.

I’m doing fine, thanks for asking. It’s not Friday here, either. The sun is out, though, which is okay.
I came upon that while searching for something else and thought you might enjoy it. I have a paperback book about the history of the canal, but I think those three pages do an excellent job.
Since I’ve been pushing myself so hard lately, I’m beginning to feel it and think I need to head off down the hall. I’m having chills again, and that’s never a good thing. The fatigue is making me stupid, and if I’m going to write that email to the cousin, I will need to do it tomorrow and not delay.
Anyway, I’ll see you in the morning!
