A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

I’m still waiting for Sharon to show up but she just lives through the block so she won’t leave too early.
Because my right eye is causing so much trouble with my vision, I checked to see if upgrading my health insurance would lower the co-pay, but it won’t, so I’ll just have to muddle along until such time as I get settled in AR, and then see what can be done.
Looks like it’s going to be a cold day, here, but no clouds on the horizon, yet.
While I was in the laundry room, I slid the documents under the door for the recertification, tomorrow. That’s such an intrusion...
I guess there will be no Grand Misguided Tour, today. The tour guide seems to have left her post and gone Walkabout on her own.
Oh, well. It’s Monday, so
Reset for Thursday! We’ll see. :o]
Well, whose idea was that? Can't the Flying Castle navigate the timestream?
We really should be able to do something about Monday. It’s Tuesday in Japan. Couldn’t we have been in Japan for their Tuesday and then come back here for our Tuesday?
My Monday turned into Tuesday about two hours sooner than it should have, so I’m out of it for this week!
Tomorrow is James’ birthday, and he will be 24. I’ll get to see him a lot when I get moved!!
I got a few more things from the closet sorted for donation, and got the clean clothes on the bed, ready to be folded and put away. Then I sorted the pills and have two boxes ready for packing some fragile things in. I may get that done in a few minutes. And maybe, if I can do a box or two every day, I can make this packing thing a memory.
You know I think the hardest part about Thanksgiving is what to cook the night BEFORE? Get so busy planning and baking, and prepping for The Big Feast ya get to 5:30pm Wednesday, and -- uuuhhhh, rats. So, here's me all Mr. Got 2lbs of Ground Beef Thawed, and everyone's like -- [eyeroll] NOT <insert too common ground beef dish here>!
As if spaghetti twice in a month would knock the Moon out of orbit, or reverse the magnetic poles of the Earth. Yeesh!
So, I grabbed a few extra ingredientes, cranked the clock back to Havana's heyday, and pulled together a new favorite: Cuban Picadillo
Used these guys' recipe sans chopped green pepper, used diced instead of whole tomatoes, and subbed green olives stuffed with garlic cloves for the ones they listed.
Served in bowls over rice it was wonderful.

I have a pound of ground beef that is begging to be made into this...
Did you leave the green peppers out entirely or substitute something else? Was it ground cumin or cumin seed?
Quick! I’m on my way to Walmart! LOL!
Kitteh smellz da meetz!
Good morning.
I actually got some things packed up and labeled. But I made more of a mess than I already had. Still, it’s a start. If I can get some stuff over to the donation center tomorrow, I’ll have room to stack some stuff. Then I can get busy.
It’s been busy here...
I just decided I’m going to keep a log of the boxes and their contents, like I did when I moved from Del Rio. It was much easier to unpack when I knew where I could find what I wanted.
That sounds like a good plan.
It’s light here, which is something.
It won’t be light here until I get back from Walmart.
I’m not looking forward to the rest of this morning, because it’s the recertification. Unngh. I’ll be going to the library before that, though. I have to drop off a DVD.
Odd, but when I was done with the last box, I felt overwhelmed by the mess I had created. Go figure. Maybe some of that is what seems to be the perpetual donation pile. I get it moved out to the truck and I start to accumulate more that needs to go. I guess its a good thing I have a strong constitution and a weak mind.
Oh noez! Tuesdayz commin.
Happy Tuesday.
Happy Tuesday! I’m not ready for it.
But you got a straight! Lucky Tuesday!
Happy Toozdy, ArGee!
The wind is up again, folks, putting the wind chill down to 22°.
I picked up the stuff to make that Cuban dish, HK, so maybe by Friday I can do it and have some left for the freezer. ;o]
I just realized, I mean REALLY realized, that Christmas is right around the Advent corner! I dug out the stash of Christmas cards and think I have enough to let most people know I’m still alive. I’ll have to see if I can find some Christmas stationary, though, to let people know the news of the year.
(Oh, my brain! So many things are pushing and shoving to be first!)
It’s beginning to look a lot like - something. Maybe the New Normal Christmas. Maybe only 2020 Christmas.
Yeah. And I just inadvertently deleted all the text messages in my phone, some with photos I hadn’t saved, yet. That makes me feel very sad.
Omitted the green pepper cuz A. didn’t have one; B. kids hate it.
Cumin is ground.
Is it naptime yet? I’m just not feeling much enthusiasm for this Tuesday.
