A Fall River man ripped up an 82-year-old Air Force veterans Trump sign and beat him up, kicking the man repeatedly, police say.
Aiden Courtright, 24, of Fall River, was arraigned Wednesday and is being held for a dangerousness hearing that will take place Thursday, according to the Bristol County District Attorneys office. That hearing, at the request of the DA Thomas Quinns office, will determine whether Courtright is able to be released on bail.
Courtright is charged with a civil rights violation with injury, assault and battery on someone over 60 with injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and vandalizing property. Fall River cops in a police report described the incident as a political hate crime.
Police said the 82-year-old was standing at the rotary at North Main Street and Airport Road shortly after 5 p.m. when a man later identified as Courtright put his car into park and confronted the man, according to the police report filled out by Fall River Police about the incident.
Courtright then ripped the sign out of the mans hands, tore it in half and threw it to the ground, police say.
Courtright then went after chase, grabbing him by his shirt knocking his hat off, and throwing him violently to the ground, Fall River police wrote, noting that Courtright had pointed leather shoes. Once (the victim) was on the ground he continued the attack by kicking him in the ribs and legs.
The 82-year-old suffered what the police report described as minor injuries, but did have to go to the hospital, and has visible bruising on his lower back.
The cops wrote that two witnesses nearby corroborated the 82-year-olds description of what happened.
Cops says Courtright hid out from them in his apartment, but then turned himself in when contacted by police.
Cops noted that the victim served in the Air Force in the 1950s.
Every neighborhood needs a godfather for incidents like this.
Some years back, I had a woman come back to visit who had been a Finnish exchange student with my parents back in the Seventies...she brought her ten year old son with her, and I took her to Boston Garden to see a Bruins game, since the Bruins goalie was from Finland and they were big fans.
After the game, I wanted to take them over to the North End (the Italian section of Boston) for coffee and pastries.
To get there, you have to pass a few blocks of deserted warehouses, lit only by sparsely placed street lights with what seemed to be old fashioned light bulbs in them.
To be fair, it looks like an area out of a Hollywood movie where people are mugged and shot...or worse...the dark empty windows of the giant warehouses staring out at them, the only thing missing to complete the scene was the electric street lights cutting in and out.
Thing was, I had been going into Boston Garden for decades, and it was common knowledge that it was completely safe to walk that gauntlet of darkened warehouses, simply because of all the mafia connections in the North End.
It was well known that no actions of any kind against tourists or people walking over from the Bruins games would be allowed to go unpunished, since they depended on tourism and restaurant business in the North End, and wouldn’t tolerate it.
And everyone knew it.
But, I couldn’t convince them, they were terrified. All they knew about American culture came from Hollywood (even though she knew better since she had spent a year here as a student) but...we didn’t make it for coffee and Italian pastries!
Move to Arkansas my friend. A senior citizen has no problem defending themselves from feral hogs, thugs, and violent criminals.
I am always gratified to hear that others have it better off in this respect...it gives me hope!
This is why I carry a 9mm Glock!!!
I'll bet everything I own that this goat fornicating punk won't be prosecuted.
“If the 82 year old had been an Italian-American, this situation would be handled a bit differently by his family. No need for the police.”
Not just the Italians: There are “family groups” in southern Louisiana that would take care of business “off the books,” as well.
Prison.
Aiden Courtright, 24, of Fall River, you are invited to a “Blanket Party” at a future date! To be determined, when some person(s) with cajones, steps up.
Mass.? I doubt it!
That time may come very soon

If you are in Fall River and see this guy, Aidan Courtright stop and say hello. The man that attacked 82 year old Charlie Chase, was released because a local liberal judge deemed a man that picked up, body slammed and kicked an 82 year old Air Force veteran, was not dangerous.

But, I agree with you.
I’m in Arizona ... From the FB site it appears that our brave Trump hater is a Ren Faire participate ... I teach martial arts to the Ren Faire Assassins Guild. There is a slim chance I could run into this ahole. I would be happy to provide a “free” MA lesson for this “person”
Democrat Blue is the “next Orange”.
Aiden needs a visit from Bikers Against Elder Abuse. Maybe he’ll meet some in the slammer.
