Respectfully disagree!

The best five horror movies are:

1978’s Halloween
1983’s Christine
1984’s Ghostbusters
1985’s Fright Night
1987’s The Lost Boys

Ghostbusters is one of my all time favorite movies but it’s not really horror.

Ok, I said Ghostbusters wasn’t horror but am now remembering how terrified I was of the librarian ghost as a kid and have withdrawn my objection.

I’d replace “The Lost Boys” with “Near Dark”... a vampire movie that never uses the word vampire in the entire movie.

And Prole, I’m going to have to watch the other movies on your list.

1975 JAWS (Yes, it’s a horror movie.)
1958 Horror of Dracula
1990 Exorcist III
1978 Halloween
1986 ALIENS (Sci-fi / horror hybrid)

Honorable mentions: Phantasm, The Wolf Man (1941), Psycho, Horror Hotel (City of the Dead), Frankenstein (1931), Curse/Night of the Demon, The Exorcist, ALIEN, The Sixth Sense, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Woman in Black (1989 TV movie)

My scariest were:

“The Shining” — although the book was MUCH scarier than the movie.

“The Exorcist”. When I saw it my husband worked nights, so I went with a group at work. Got home around 11 p.m. to an EMPTY HOUSE. Did not sleep well for days. The fact that I believe in possession made it worse.

“Something Evil” — an early Spielberg made-for-TV movie. I hardly remember it now, but do recall that it scared me a lot!
