It was two weeks ago when I received the diagnosis that so many Americans across our country and the world had already receivedI tested positive for COVID-19. To make matters worse, my husband, and our nations Commander-in-Chief, received the same news.
Naturally my mind went immediately to our son. To our great relief he tested negative, but again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldnt help but think what about tomorrow or the next day?. My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive. Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative.
I was very fortunate as my diagnosis came with minimal symptoms, though they hit me all at once and it seemed to be a roller coaster of symptoms in the days after. I experienced body aches, a cough and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of the time. I chose to go a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting more for vitamins and healthy food. We had wonderful caretakers around us and we will be forever grateful for the medical care and professional discretion we received from Dr. Conley and his team. It was an unfamiliar feeling for me to be the patient instead of a person trying to encourage our nation to stay healthy and safe. It was me being taken care of now, and getting first-hand experience with all that COVID-19 can do. As the patient, and the person benefitting from so much medical support, I found myself even more grateful and in awe of caretakers and first responders everywhere. To the medical staff and the residence staff who have been taking care of our familythank you doesnt say enough.
Recovering from an illness gives you a lot of time to reflect. When my husband was taken to Walter Reed as a precaution, I spent much of my time reflecting on my family. I also thought about the hundreds of thousands of people across our country who have been impacted by this illness that infects people with no discrimination. We are in unprecedented timesand with the election fast approaching, it has been easy to get caught up in so much negative energy.
It also cheered me to think of all the people I have met across our country and the worldand the goodness and compassion that exists if you seek it out. Our country has overcome many hardships and much adversity, and it is my hope COVID-19 will be another obstacle we will be able to tell future generations we overcameand learned from in the process.
I encourage everyone to continue to live the healthiest life they can. A balanced diet, fresh air, and vitamins really are vital to keep our bodies healthy. For your complete well-being, compassion and humility are just as important in keeping our minds strong. For me personally, the most impactful part of my recovery was the opportunity to reflect on many thingsfamily, friendships, my work, and staying true to who you are.
I am happy to report that I have tested negative and hope to resume my duties as soon as I can. Along with this good news, I want people to know that I understand just how fortunate my family is to have received the kind of care that we did. If you are sick, or if you have a loved one who is sickI am thinking of you and will be thinking of you every day. I pray for our country and I pray for everyone who is grappling with COVID-19 and any other illnesses or challenges.
Thank you to everyone who reached out, and offered well wishes and prayers for our family. You remain in ours as well.
Agree....only within say...the last 3 weeks.
But that could have waited three weeks until after the election.

Some people are worried about voting in person and may trust the Dem sensitive “mail in voting” to avoid exposure. Best to get the truth about minimal Covid-19 risks out now.
LOL. You never disappoint, sir! Well played.
And to those who might wish to excoriate me for ‘encouraging’ you, tough.
Agree to disagree.
Always class and a breath of fresh air. LOVELY lady!!
One hundred times more class than all the Trump haters, and also a ton more class than all the Trump-hate-filled leading Dims. Trumps wife is too good for so many haters in this country. They don’t deserve her.
I did not hear it live at the beginning of todays hearings. I did hear Graham say to someone on camera during an early break that he was dripping with sarcasm. Sorry, Lindsay, that sarcasm does not show itself in an excerpt of your own voice. If he loses his election, his own basket of deplorables comment will be part of the reason. There is no place for sarcasm at a Senate hearing.
Sarcasm is ok here on Freerepublic but should always include the end-sarcasm tag. Why should readers have to guess about a persons intended sarcasm?
Are you:
A. Sarcastic?
B. A total jerk?
Aren’t they all?
Why, it’s the deadliest thing since the common cold.
80% of the people showing infection are mask wearers

Well, her beauty does throw you off at first. :)
My point exactly.
It was Hillary that said "basket of deplorables".
Pay attention.
I have heard that the mask only protect others if you have it. But it doesn’t protect you.
Take that for what it’s worth. Which is not much. ;)
Exactlymasks are kabuki theater, and a way for the govt to control people, to make them comply mindlessly.
If the govt said wearing a chocolate frog on your head protects you, I fear too many people will wear the frog because the govt told them to.
:) Thanks FF!
President Trump sure must have had a heavy heart when he found out they were both sick.
But now, they're all immune. Sounds like God had a plan.
Melania is such a class act. America has been blessed in reparation for the previous 8 years.
Thank you, Lord. Amen.
Now-a-days I am living in my basement, eat readymade frozen food full of sodium and fat, do not take any vitamins.
But I can do 30 minutes on the treadmill set 3 degrees up-slope, and moving at 23 min/mile. That is all Iam doing to stay healthy, pain free and full of energy at age 80. I can mow my entire lawn with a battery powered push mower (not self-propelled) without stopping. I just completed a project to install edging around the house filled with river pebbles to catch falling rain water from roof. This brand new house has no roof gutters and none of the other 300 houses in our sub-division as well. I was afraid the water would erode soil, the rocks are doing a great job to stop that.
“Well, her beauty does throw you off at first. :)”
LOL! Actually, when she first appeared at the beginning of the rat race, I had a feeling she was a bit stand-offish. Then it occurred to me that she was shy, and most likely overwhelmed by the world’s attention. And THEN the RATs began their horrendous attacks, and that would definitely impact a shy or private person.
When she got in to the swing of things, it occurred to me that she is a perfect FLOTUS — and may be the best ever. God sent her to us, and He did good!
