A teenage girl was critically injured when a goalpost toppled over and crashed onto her head as she was posing for a photo with her cheerleading team in Oklahoma, a report said Tuesday.

Jenessa Thompson, 15, was underneath the 500-pound structure as her teammates climbed onto it to get in position for the photo at their high school in the town of Cyril...

She’ll remain in intensive care for several more days, but her grandmother told the station that her condition had improved Tuesday evening and she did not have bleeding in her brain.

The girl is being treated for a jaw injury and doctors are looking for more issues.

They will legislate that goalposts must be made of some lightweight material, that will not doubt flap in the breeze.

I have a relative who kicked field goals in college. A fan of that he would not be.

Yet another example in which moving the goalposts leads to trouble. In this case, moving them in a downwards direction.

I sincerely pray that she regains her facilities, fully and that nothing hampers her recovery.

“Great. There go goalposts...”

Democrats will still demand imaginary goalposts. It’ll make it much easier to move them in their struggles to win arguments.”

1,000 people live in town, about 30 miles west of Lawton.

Generally good folks live out there.

Prayers up.

Cheerleading is a deceptively dangerous sport. My youngest daughter was a cheerleader. We have had many visits to the emergency room.

Bingo. Many serious injuries every year involving dismounts from pyramids.

As both an FR rule, and a professional courtesy, cheerleader pics are required...

I remember being a pubescent boy and thinking those Cowboy cheerleader uniforms were just about the sexiest thing on earth.

Today you see women wearing far less walking down the street all the time.

People see the cheerleaders on TV during NFL or NBA games and think 'they're just dancers'. And that's true, at that level that's all they do.

But at the high school and college levels they are generally crazy athletic gymnasts too. Lots of skill and athleticism needed at that level, and plenty of opportunity for injuries as there are for any athlete. At the high school level I have as much respect for the cheerleaders as I do for the teams.

Of course at the NFL level it's different; I much prefer the cheerleaders.

Back in the mid 80s a young couple lived in the house right behind us. She was a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader at the time... looked pretty cute in her game day outfit. :-)

How about just not allowing people to climb up something that wasn’t meant to bear weight?
