WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — A Mingo County nurse who spoke at the Republican National Convention in August is a suspect in a Williamson shooting.
Authorities on Friday reported Amy Thorn allegedly shot Jonda Whitt near 841 Vinson St. on Thursday. Thorn faces a charge of malicious wounding.
Amy Thorn is also known as Amy Johnson and Amy Ford.
Thorn, a registered nurse, spent the early months of the coronavirus pandemic working as a relief nurse in New York City and San Antonio.
Ford spoke at the Republican National Convention in support of President Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic.
Police said Whitt underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
This is 2020; don’t ask.

Amy Thorn is also known as Amy Johnson and Amy Ford.
Is this her maiden name and perhaps a former married name? They make it sound like she is some devious character, yet they provide no context as to why she has these other names she is known by.
Chitty reporting in my opinion, that almost seems like nothing more a hit piece against the woman.
I’ve stayed in Williamson, WV. I’ll tell you how deep in coal country it is.
First, the local bank is made out of anthracite coal.
Second, it is, I believe, the county seat of Hatfield (yes, THAT Hatfield) County.
Corona drove her over the edge.
Maybe the person she shot was a Rabid Democrat who attacked her for being a Republican of some note..
I don’t have a subscription to get details, but one of those internet background reporting websites indicates that A Jonda Whitt of West Virginia has several court interactions and a possible criminal record.
So, barring further information, I’m hoping this is a case of self defense and poor reporting.
What happened? What were the circumstances? What does “malicious wounding” imply? So many details left for the imagination to fill in...
