The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

Another doozy from Today’s Arkansas Gazette.
This may be easy for some esp if you get the first two words right out of the gate, otherwise you’ll be sloshing thru the mud like dough boys in WWI until you look up and some words appear before you. Don’t give up on this one.

I took a lucky guess at the first word, that gave me the author, and it was snap after that. My lucky guess on the first word was based on letter frequency of its second letter.
I lucked out - it fell into place right away.
For me, the hint of the first two words made this one easy for me. With those the name of the author also became clear and it was all downhill from there.
Same here. First letter led to author.
This was a good one. Either I’m getting better or I’m getting lucky. I got this one in less than one minute by lucking out on a couple of short words that helped fill in the name quickly.
Struggled for a minute. Tried the last two words of the quote and it fell into place. Less than 3 minutes.
