“They gonna put y’all back in chains!”
My Choir conductor says says Y’all’ too, but in fairness he has a son who lives in Alabama. My Choir conductor was born, and grew up in Pennsylvania, and still lives there.
I live in Spanish Fort, which is straight across Mobile Bay from Mobile, and I can attest that we would NOT fault a Yankee for saying Y’all. Now then, if a Yankee even tried a Bless Your Heart, we’d yank a knot in his azz quick fast.
I guess I should shut my mouth. I’m a damn yankee who grew up saying yous or you guys. Been living in the south 10+ years, it has come out of my mouth a few time. Now y’all with a New York accent is a rather discordant thing.
Y’all Yankees don’t be appropriating, ya’hear?
I saw a video of Biden addressing about a dozen blacks at one of his “events” in North Caroline about a week or two ago. I heard him say “yall” two or three times. I’ve also heard Hillary Clinton say “yall” when she’s campaigning among blacks in the South.
Remember when John Kerry went South he dressed up in his hunting togs, carried a shotgun and came back holding two ducks.
I read sometime ago that what a lot of people like about Trump is that he is who he is. He shows up dressed in a suit, and speaks with his Queens accent. I haven’t heard him say “yall” even once.
Im happy when Yankees say yall
I think this would be appropriate for this thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUFL2GT1-2g&list=PL5b6Q3XmBZ7wiWP-Rjf6l4jtF04NSB8e2&app=desktop
Ive got your cultural appropriation rat cheer
Correct usage for “Y”all” is one person addressing another person. When addressing multiple persons, the correct usage is the plural form: “All Y’all”!
Southern hick Cletus said partner! He is appropriating Western cowhand culture!
“Did y’all hear what Mama said!”—Dick Shawn in It’s a MAD, Mad, Mad, Mad World, when under the “BIG W!”
Dang! I just used it at least 2 times in the last couple hours. An upper Midwest boy now living in Alaska.
Hey! L.A. for all it’s faults, is SOUTHERN Calif after all. I still use more than a few Spanish words for the same reason.
“Y’all” is a very useful word, and much easier on the ears than yinz or yunz.
Here's where the Bee article gets it wrong. I'm from Mississippi and we use the word "dude" all the time, it's almost as common as y'all
Maybe we did culturally appropriate California, but we did it a long time ago.
I’m from California originally, and I’ve been using “y’all” since as long as I can remember. It’s just a country state of mind thing that fits well in Northern California outdoors culture too.

the “ya’ll zone” extends beyond the original 13 confederate states ... they use it in oaklahoma too, for example ... also, there’s an enclave in bakersfield, ca of transplanted oakies and even today, they have accents indistinguishable from southern accents, including using “ya’ll” ...
I aint no ways tired...
