Im happy when Yankees say yall
It is a nice contraction.
Growing up in northern Virginia we said “you all” rather than “y’all”. I had wondered if that was the result of the Southern accent being totally drowned in a deluge of imported yankee speech, but apparently not. It’s just a dialect variation that runs along the northern border of Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia.
When I take dialect quizzes it’s spooky how accurately some of them peg where I grew up. But since I tend to use figures of speech acquired from my parents sometimes it locates me closer to their home towns.
