A total of 2,476 teenagers ages 13-19 died in motor vehicle crashes in 2018... About 2 of every 3 teenagers killed in crashes in 2018 were males.
In the United States, teenagers drive less than all but the oldest people, but their numbers of crashes and crash deaths are disproportionately high.Footnote 1 In the United States, the fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16-19 year-olds is nearly 3 times the rate for drivers ages 20 and over. Risk is highest at ages 16-17.
In 2018, teenagers accounted for 7 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths. They comprised 8 percent of passenger vehicle (cars, pickups, SUVs, and vans) occupant deaths among all ages, 4 percent of pedestrian deaths, 3 percent of motorcyclist deaths, 7 percent of bicyclist deaths and 12 percent of all-terrain vehicle rider deaths.

Obviously if teens practiced "garage-in-place" except for essential travel and everyone kept a 6 car length distance in doing the latter then we could prevent almost all those deaths.
In comparison, out of over 200,000 COVID-19 deaths, as Oct 3 2020 only 94 deaths among those under 18 have been attributed to COVID-19, (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#demographics), yet teens are told to not play sports, and encouraged to stay home, meaning get more overweight wasting time ion video games.
Yet a study in the UK attributed 676,000 deaths each year to inactivity. (https://www.bbc.com/news/health-30812439) while in the US even as far back as 2004 an estimated 400,000 people died from causes related to poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyles -- 33% more than in 1990. CDC Director Julie Gerberding said, "The problem of obesity is really an epidemic, and we need to apply the same tools to combat it as if it were an infectious disease epidemic." (https://californiahealthline.org/morning-breakout/obesity-second-leading-cause-of-preventable-us-deaths-cdc-study-finds/)
It’s an pandemic! Shut down the economy and take all of the vehicles off the road.
We make the mistake of occasionally thinking they really WANT perspective...
“...meaning get more overweight wasting time [i]on video games.”
I do lines of Adderol and drink Red Bull while gaming.
I’m ripped. Not like Rambo 1, but Rambo 2.
j/k
Masks help to prevent your spittle from becoming airborne in droplets that can be breathed in by other people. These droplets and other particulate matter is what the virus hitches a ride on. Your mask is not going to prevent the spittle from a maskless person from being breathed in by you, the only thing that can help there is standing at least 13 feet away from them if there is no breeze, and much further than that if there is one.
This was such a simple thing. Just sew up a two layer cotton mask and wear it. Now we might get stuck with President Harris, all because masks are the hill people decided the GOP should die on.
perspective, yeah but how many MATTERED people were targeted by car crashes?....that’s what we really need to know....because cars are racists..
I see what you did there :)
Actually masks can reduce the viral load an infected person spreads, but the issue is that of why COVID-19 is dangerous, which is due to the overall poor health, with almost all persons dying with it having comorbidities esp. obesity, and hypertension.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that almost 90 percent of U.S. coronavirus patients who have been hospitalized had underlying health problems, or comorbidities. As of 8–22, for 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death.
Child drownings is a big number also.
Wrong: According to PC ethos, only cars with a politically incorrect color are racist, and are to be distanced from. However, cars with a politically incorrect color are still racist if they display a politically incorrect color bumper sticker.
Freedom is such a horrible hill to die on...if freedom is such a frightening concept to voters; then perhaps what’s left of America deserves President Harris.
The co-morbidities is true, but dont forget what a big hairy stinking deal the former administration made of pre-existing conditions by using (imo) Obamacare to launch this neverending search for pre-existing conditions by severely restricting antibiotics as well as the overuse of opioids. Everybody thinks they have pre-existing conditions now.
I think Trump did us a favor by acting to close borders (like other countries did at the time, and over the hysteria of the Democrats). He also showed leadership in shutting is down for a time to give our doctors and scientists a chance to formulate effective treatments, all while the CCP was doing everything in its power to thwart this information gathering. We have been subject to an unprecedented propaganda effort by hostile nations like China and Iran, the groundwork for which was laid during the previous administrations. Our labs are now suffering all the cyber attacks that the banks and retailers were dealing with. Remember all those hacks of millions of peoples data at a time?
The thing that works for Trump is that while not wearing masks is a position most Americans dont embrace, Trump did do the right things to buy us time to develop effective treatments, often while facing stiff headwinds from the Democrats. We have treatments, and he will recover, showcasing those treatments. I think he will have to shove the globalists into a closet and run as a populist on making these treatments available to everyone who needs them.
If the Justice Department can give us deep state butts headed for Federal prison, that would also help. The inertia of the Obama administration harmed the Clinton campaign and it can harm Biden too, but only if people can see a different approach at work. No more too big/important to fail. This too is a populist idea.
Freedom is not the hill you are standing on if you insist on treating the wearing of a face mask during a pandemic as some grave violation of your civil rights, that hill is your right to violate other peoples rights to being able to breathe free and go about their day. Rights are a balancing act, you dont exist in a bubble.
Pandemic? Don’t make me laugh.
Well played Sir
Not ripped by playing video games, and my statement was in regards to the increasing numbers of those who just stay in and get more overweight wasting time on video games.
I cant tell if youre kidding, but I was kidding.
We really should focus on Protecting our Public Officials and Public Employee’s by Mandating they Exclusively use Mass Transit for ALL their Travel Needs and REVOKE their Driving Privileges in perpetuity, report it to the National Driver Registry so they can’t go out of State to get a License to Drive a Dangerous Motor Vehicle, just to make sure.
No, I thought you were serious!
