Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock has highlighted a number of studies linking prolonged mask use to headaches and lowered blood oxygen levels, which can weaken the immune system.
Could the requirement to wear masks in public to prevent the spread of the coronavirus be doing more harm than good to people's health?
A retired neurosurgeon believes so, pointing toward studies which found that wearing masks for prolonged periods can cause serious side effects.
In an article published by Technocracy News, Dr. Russell Blaylock wrote that the side effects from prolonged wearing of a face mask "can vary from headaches to increased airway resistance, carbon dioxide accumulation, to hypoxia, all the way to serious life-threatening complications."
The side effects vary depending on whether they are cloth or paper surgical masks or N95 respirator masks because the N95, being a more effective filter, also limits breathing to a greater degree, and is therefore more commonly associated with headaches, Blaylock reported.
He highlighted one study of 212 healthcare workers who were asked to report on the presence of headaches while using the N95 mask, including the duration of the headache, the type of headache, and whether they had pre-existing headaches. The study found that around a third of workers developed headaches when using the N95 mask, the majority had pre-existing headaches that were made worse by the use of the mask, and around three in five required pain medication to relieve the headache.
And although tight straps or pressure from the mask were considered as potential causes, the evidence pointed to the headaches being caused by reduced blood oxygenation, or an increase in carbon dioxide in the blood. "It is known that the N95 mask, if worn for hours, can reduce blood oxygenation as much as 20%..."

Yes! I can’t F-ing Breath!
Collecting and Concentrating everything in the Air
Thanks for posting this article. Today’s meme seems to be that every scientist says masks are the best way to avoid COVID and there are no ill effects from wearing masks.
I am so tired of posting rebuttal articles. I’m glad to have this one handy.
Yes.
Here is an easy test to see if your mask is restricting oxygen. Buy a Pulse Oximeter from any number of places for about $20. Test yourself with it before and after wearing your mask for awhile. My baseline on the meter is 97%. With one of the paper masks I tried, it dropped to 89% in less than 30 minutes. When I am forced to wear a mask due to store policy, I use one that is made out of piece of mulsin that is just a little bit away from being cheese cloth. I was going to use actual cheese cloth but I use that to make cheese with.
If you are healthy, you shouldn’t be wearing a mask. A universal edict by government to wear one is about psychological manipulation and not your health or somebody else’s health.
Irreversible brain damage
I'm my own anecdotal rebuttal:
I've worn commercial N95 dust masks with the valve and full-face respirators with the cartridges for years while involved in fairly strenuous physical work [floor-sanding, tile work (mixing mortar and grout) and drywall installation/repair].
I can work a full day in that get-up. I have to peel off the face diapers after 15 minutes to get air, even just walking around a store.
Actually, I'll do a "chin pull", where I pull the mask down off my nose with my chin, to get air when I'm by myself in a store aisle.
The years of working in masks and respirators trained me to breathe through my nose and not through my mouth, so my air intake is restricted by the diapers.
I suppose Lefty mouth-breathers are more used to their method of air intake...
I was going to use actual cheese cloth but I use that to make cheese with.

Just use the cheese - just as effective.
And lots of workers aren’t permitted to take breaks every 15 minutes.
I have to wear a mask at work and if I don’t pull it out every couple minutes and breathe deeply I get sleepy and lethargic.
To poorly paraphrase a line from Outlaw Josey Wales.
Cheese is for eaten, not breathin’ through.
Right.
I'm saying I can work in cartridge respirators and valve N95s all day - but I have to get air with face diapers after a few short minutes.
I keep waiting for Greedy Lawyers to start running ads to SUE Everyone that forced you to wear an Unsafe Medical Device.
Makes your face all moist under it saturating the mask making it hard to breathe - and don’t ever eat a double garlic pepperoni pizza.
(Even surgeons don't normally wear masks all day, every day. We don't know what the long term effects will be for adults, much less children.)
The silence of pediatricians about this is shocking.
The blue state tyrants know that masks are useless. The fact that they weaken us is a perk.
Look what they pulled off with virtually no resistance.
Were running around wearing muzzles (ok, Im not, and my governor is sane). This way, we can’t read each other very well. Smiling is pointless. Being friendly to each other does not matter any more.
Would you ever have believed that we would put muzzles on *ourselves*?
The *social* (there is nothing *social* about staying six feet apart) distancing is another triumph for the dictators. They have found another way to keep us from gathering together and plotting to demand our Constitutional rights.
The real coup de grace was outlawing religion in any form (was islam exempted?). Even when people remained in their ludicrously socially distanced cars, listening to the services on speakers as if they were at the drive-in movies, they were subject to freakin arrest.
Walmart is ok. Church? Oh, hell, no.
Blue staters fear faith in God more than they fear Islamic terrorist. It’s insane.
Communists hate the idea that there could be a power greater than their own.
Eat breath all the same when it come to pronouncements on this virus and various subtopics from learned authorities and wisemen as seen on TV
Unsafe and ineffective, even written on the labels.. The lawsuits are going to be YUGE. So many need to pay BIG TIME.
