I'm thinking this hold over Hunter is much deeper and more sinister than we could ever imagine.

One thing comes to mind is Hunter is being blackmailed even thought dad is opening doors for Hunter to make lots of money for Joe. Joe's financial man is most likely in the shadow's with a direct line to another very powerful person.
