A New Jersey mans body was pulled from 1,565 feet underwater after he drowned in Lake Tahoe, Nevada the deepest known recovery in US history, authorities said.
The remains of 29-year-old Ryan Normoyle were recovered Monday from the lake, which is the second-deepest in the nation, according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
Police said Normoyle drowned last month after he recorded himself jumping off his rented boat then was unable to swim fast enough to catch up with the vessel, which he left in gear.

Ha ha ha! The name of the episode was “The Tahoe Tessies”!
1500 feet is deeper than the Twin Towers were tall. Diving that deep is not the safest thing in the world to be doing. The rescue personnel who carried this out definitely went above and beyond.
Neither did he.
LOL!
NBC Sports LIP’EM & RIP’EM - “The Tahoe Tessies”. Might still be on YouTube...
Don: Eh, they found the snitch wassis name Fredo from Joizee?
Luigi: No boss, they say it’s some kid who jumped from a boat.
Don: Ha-ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha! Nice woik Luigi, nice woik! Here’s a thou for your new baby. Tell your wifey I said hello.
And cold too... At that depth around 40 degrees, year round. Cold enough Im thinking, to really slow decomposing.
I knew it was him
Sounds like he could have drowned in an eight foot deep puddle. We get quite a few who do stupid things on our lakes. Some times they are recovered, some times they are not.
Probably a TikTok dare, or he was trying to start one.
Probably recovered by a submersible. This depth is past the current record dive.
To be honest, being its New Jersey, at first I wondered if they found him with his shoes on.
The cement ones.
Some old Italian lady died somewhere
I grew up on the ocean, and now boat on Lake Lanier near atlanta.
I consider myself a fish, when it comes to comfort swimming in the ocean, inshore offshore anywhere.
I dont swim from the boat in lakes without a life jacket. The kids hate it, but they cant either.
At least in the ocean if you get tired, you float. In a lake, you sink. Furthermore, most lakes have about 3-6 feet of visibility. No one could find you to save you if you went under.
It depends on depth and water temp: at that depth and temp, the gasses can’t make the body bouyant enough to float, and the body doesn’t decay because of the temp. It saponifies if it’s not eaten.
Must have had empty intestines and a low BMI to sink that way.
He could handle things. He was smart, not like everybody says...
That’s a rough way to get in the Guiness Book of World Records.
Hardly seems worth it.
Here, hold my beer and watch this!
