A former federal agent who survived a cartel ambush in Mexico in 2011, where his partner (Special Agent Jaime Zapata) died, set a world record by successfully making a 2010 yard handgun shot. Using a 10 mm handgun and standing without the help of a bench or rest, former ICE agent Victor Avila struck a target more than a mile away as part of a series of endeavors to give back to the community...
USA1Shot, a company that developed a rapidly deployable brace attachment for handguns aimed at helping law enforcement officers have the stability of a rifle while using their service handgun. The tool is meant to be carried in an officers belt giving him rapid access.
Even though he is not a competitive shooter, Avila utilized a .40 caliber handgun with a scope and one of their braces, to shoot a target at 1,650 yards away several times. That shot was soon followed by a 2,010 yard shot with a 10mm handgun also using a scope and the brace. The 90-minute shooting session was recorded on film and tracked using GPS and laser devices. Even though Avila landed the shot during the summer, it took several weeks for the results to be documented and certified as a world record.
In law enforcement, you are used to hearing the shot and immediately hearing if it hit the metal plate or seeing the results on paper, Avila said. Here, it takes 11 seconds for the bullet to travel to the target.
After each shot, Avila was not able to move as he waited in the same position to see if he missed...
You are standing in an offhand position, there is no bench to lean on, it took a lot of concentration, a lot of breathing,

yup, and if it really IS a brace being used as a stock, same federal charges
And I thought I was cool for ringing a 20” steel target with my 7” 1911 at 200 yards off handed. .45 is nigh harmless at that range and you gotta really listen for the impact.
This guy hitting a target over 10 times that range is definitely an ego bruiser
How soon before the BATF declares it to be a “stocked Pistol” and illegal for the Great Unwashed to own?
I remember a similar stock that attached to the palm of the hand, but not the pistol, being declared illegal.
If I remember correctly, long range shooters have to figure in the rotation of the Earth in order to be able to hit a target at very long ranges.
Wonder what “computer” Billy Dixon used for his long shot at Adobe Wells.
That ain’t nothing. I saw a chinese movie where a guy with a 6 shooter dropped a guy at 2 miles away off a moving horse with the shooter on a moving train. Course it was his 17th shot out of the six shooter.
And I thought I was doin’ good to put 5 out of 6 into a five gallon pail at 300 yards with an old model Single Six .357, 45 years ago.
That rainbow arc would be handy at a known distance for dropping them into the far side of a stadium.
Just sayin.
Reminds me of an old book.
I shoot handguns to 500 yards at the metallic silhouette range. I honestly didn’t think a 40 would go 2,000 yards.
“...that’s not a brace... that’s a stock!!! and hence a short barreled rifle...”
Right. Maybe next time he could convert the handgun to bolt action, add a bipod and shoot prone or from a bench. With the stock, this is a ridiculous record and should have an asterisk.
10mm to be fair, not 40S&W.
Still only talking 1400fps vs 1250fps.
thank you...
True, at least in high angle artillery fire. You also have to correct for wind direction, wind speed and air density in the various layers of atmosphere the round passes through on its way up and down. There are many other factors taken into account as well. It can get complicated at long ranges.
“And I thought I was cool for ringing a 20 steel target with my 7 1911 at 200 yards off handed.”
Yes.
Yes you are.
I looked it up, found a good article about it. Here’s what the author said:
QUOTE
There is no attachment involved. Your hand secures the 1SHOT to the pistol and thats what keeps the product from being NFA regulated and you on the ATFs good side. You simply grip your handgun, add the 1SHOT, acquire a cheek weld, line up the sights, and bang.
END QUOTE
So it’s not technically a stock, it’s not mechanically attached, except by the grip of your hand. The way he describes it, put the pistol and brace together and hold it. Nothing permanently attached, and according to his comments, no paperwork needed. Yet...
Once a few liberals find out about it, all bets are off. Ican see Bozo O’Rourke scraming for a ban already...

There’s the whole article. good read.

Crowd.
so it’s legal till the BATFags say it isn’t...
their reply left a hole big enough to drive a track thru, but i’ll accept it for now
Isnt that an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) you say?
Shoulder stocked handguns have been around for centuries, but the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 classifies pistols with a stock into a restricted item (SBR) requiring a $200 tax and government approval.
The unique design of the 1Shot and the fact that it is not permanently attached to the handgun keeps it from being declared an SBR.
We were skeptical and asked to see a letter confirming this from the ATF.
APSs CTO, Robert Gilmer, has asked the ATF Technology Branch for a letter to clarify, but the Tech branch stated that since it does not attach to the firearm or impact the design or function of the handgun in a permanent manner it is simply a shooting rest and not covered by the purview of the Tech branch.
We asked the ATF their opinion and they had none, as it is not a permanent part of the weapon. This product has been in development for almost three years with major players in the firearms industry working with APS such as Leupold, Glock and Safariland. We have spoken with the top military and law enforcement people in the nation and all of the feedback has been positive.

The absolute best there are in long range rifle shooting would have a hard time at that range unless the target was the size of a barn.
