Legendary Ex-ICE Agent Sets Record for World’s Longest Handgun Shot
Breitbart ^ | 27 Sep 2020 | ILDEFONSO ORTIZ and BRANDON DARBY

A former federal agent who survived a cartel ambush in Mexico in 2011, where his partner (Special Agent Jaime Zapata) died, set a world record by successfully making a 2010 yard handgun shot. Using a 10 mm handgun and standing without the help of a bench or rest, former ICE agent Victor Avila struck a target more than a mile away as part of a series of endeavors to give back to the community...

USA1Shot, a company that developed a rapidly deployable brace attachment for handguns aimed at helping law enforcement officers have the stability of a rifle while using their service handgun. The tool is meant to be carried in an officer’s belt giving him rapid access.

Even though he is not a competitive shooter, Avila utilized a .40 caliber handgun with a scope and one of their braces, to shoot a target at 1,650 yards away several times. That shot was soon followed by a 2,010 yard shot with a 10mm handgun also using a scope and the brace. The 90-minute shooting session was recorded on film and tracked using GPS and laser devices. Even though Avila landed the shot during the summer, it took several weeks for the results to be documented and certified as a world record.

“In law enforcement, you are used to hearing the shot and immediately hearing if it hit the metal plate or seeing the results on paper,” Avila said. “Here, it takes 11 seconds for the bullet to travel to the target.”

After each shot, Avila was not able to move as he waited in the same position to see if he missed...

“You are standing in an offhand position, there is no bench to lean on, it took a lot of concentration, a lot of breathing,”

I appreciate that this is an exhibition. Reality is that no one looking to make a long shot is going to use a handgun, but it’s nice to see 10mm getting some love.

I see his pistol is aimed upward. That’s quite an arc.

11 seconds of “drop.”

If you hold a shell and drop it, it hits ground in under a second.

He had to fire far above the target to reach it.

Considering he had to adjust for windage and other external factors as well, that was one monster shot for anyone, much less with a handgun. Wow.

Did I miss something? Not a very informative article without the size of the target. I could probably hit Mount Everest from a mile away with my eyes closed.

6030 feet in 11 seconds? Surprising. But an amazing feat!

Once is luck.
Twice is coincidence.
Three times is skill.

It’s a fun story, just enjoy it

It would be interesting to know what the velocity of the bullet was at the time it hit the target. It almost makes you think you could reach out with your hand and grab it at that point.

“6030 feet in 11 seconds? Surprising.”

Probably takes a few of those seconds, just for the sound to make it back to the shooter.

Wow.

I’m laughing at myself. I thought I was good with my GP 100 (Ruger) out to two hundred yds.

Wow.

5.56mm

With so many of the Border Patrol Officers working out in rural areas, it might be possible for some to carry this small attachment, where a rifle is too cumbersome.

A buttstock and scope aren’t cumbersome? I’d take a carbine any day.
