Places with highest daily reported cases per capita
Seven-day average of daily new reported cases per 100,000 residents
Thanks for the well thought out profanity?
Really adds to the conversation.
Even if the virus had 1% fatality rate, I wouldn’t want to shut down our way of life. Right now it is looking like the true rate is 0.1%. Maybe 0.2%. So that would be around 330,000 to 660,000 dead Americans.
But to the politicians, this is a new war on drugs. No acceptable losses, no clear idea of when we “won”.
Cases, cases, cases..... I dont care how many cases there are. All that matters is how many are seriously ill, and how many are dying at any point in time (and what demographic those victims belong to). And the widespread corruption of the testing results, as well as the ridiculous stretching of the definition of a virus-related death have made it nearly impossible to know what is really going on.
I think we’ll find out if that changes on November 3.
0.65% is the overall IFR from CDC.
Don’t take this wrong, but learning how to post would be beneficial. Thank you.
If it’s that high, we will see 2 million dead Americans. So the virus had infected only around 10% of the population so far.
If the “memo” means anything then yes.
Yup. Meaningless thread. Numbers are bogus. Panic goes away November 4
We’ve got county commissioners dumb enough to play tag in a darkened machine shop. We got an increase in cases but no deaths, so they’re mandating masks for everyone. The sheriff tells them today to pound sand; he’s not going to even notice mask violators.
The threat of the virus has been well eclipsed by the danger of politics.
Nah, not that high.
330 million Americans, 60% herd immunity threshold (1-1/R0, R0 for SARS-CoV-2 is 2.5 per CDC), 198 million eventually become infected (assuming no vaccine). 0.65% die, that’s 1,287,000 total deaths.
We currently show 209,453 official deaths. Working backwards from the IFR, that gives us 32,223,538 infected, or 9.8%. There are around 250,000 excess deaths this year and I’ve seen some papers suggesting around 240,000 of those are likely COVID-19 deaths (indicating we’ve actually been undercounting deaths; not overcounting). Working backwards from that would give us 36,923,077 infected, or 11.2%.
The widespread antibody study done with dialysis patients had us at 9.3% infected as of July (https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/25/health/coronavirus-antibodies-dialysis-patients/index.html). Surely a bit more by now. That puts us right in the range I have above, which lends additional credence to the IFR number CDC and multiple studies have been using for quite some time now.
This all underscores the need for the vaccines President Trump has been working to get into the hands of the American people. Our president understands the situation well and has been working diligently for months now to bring everything to a conclusion that preserves American lives as well as American prosperity. We should all be thankful we have him running the show. Serious times demand serious people at the helm.
