I want to buy a home defense shotgun and I would appreciate FR input. Ive always been more of a rifle and pistol person. What say yall to a senior citizen buying a shotgun for the first time. Is Mossberg Shockmaster or Roadblocker a good choice.
Single action revolvers are more reliable than semi auto pistols. Does not mean I would want one in a gun fight.
Interesting, i just looked that up and it does appear the SKS was originally a Soviet design, before the Chinese flooded the market with all the clones. Makes sense though. Thanks a lot for the info.
Those look really nice, and the prices have come way down from where they were when it first came out. Like way down to where Im interested. Is there a way to mount a forward grip or other under barrel accessories easily? I can only find one picture of one modded like that anywhere, which may be a custom rig, but for me that can really help with control in rapid fire scenarios. Thanks.
The best gun to have in a gunfight is one that will shoot. While your SDS Imports Lynx 12 semi auto looks like a fun toy or even a decent defensive weapon if you can seek cover and have spent time dialing it in but the fact remains that they do seem to occasionally suffer from a failure to feed problem. One also needs to fiddle with the gas pressures to make it feed more reliably with different loads. The poster is a first time shotgun user and this is not a good choice for a weapon that he can depend on, no matter what. It looks like a fun shotgun to play with and I might get one but your Lynx 12 is not what the poster needs despite its tacticool look .
Theres a lot of add ons available ...its essentially an AR platform
Man they shoot easy
Its not like an Auto5 smacking your shoulder
For later study.
Buy TWO (2) Rem Marine Magnum 870’s (MM870’a) with a Paradigm Gator Choke using #5 turkey loads ....... keep it clean of “accessories” .
Senior Citizen Recliner gun and Bedroom Gun .. Backlight all your points of entry to silhouette your targets, sit on the floor to shoot so ya don’t wing the grand kids in the next room .....
The #5 Turkey load won’t leave the confines of a brick and stick house 99% of the time if ya have to shoot in suburbia .
The best “shotgun” is a reliable and tested AR Pistol using M855 green tip for my needs. KISS principal is key for self defense .
Stay Safe !
Great choice !!
My 2 Mossberg 500s riot and my 930 semi with ghost rings. 4 buckshot or homemade nastys
Matt, izzat you?

About 100 rounds. Took it out this last weekend ... such a fun shotgun. Got the attention of everyone at the range.
Bkmk
Hell of a gun...
Hell of a gun...
You might consider making the purchase in person during a short visit to Wyoming,
My go to’s are Remington 870 20 gauge and a Taurus Judge which shoots a .410 round. My Taurus is loaded with #6 shot. Five rounds make for 2,000+ pellets.
My wife cannot support the weight of the 870 but is very comfortable with the Taurus.
Nah, Consider the Military Trench and Riot guns. By nature of its bulky ammo, the shotgun is a low-capacity weapon, suited okay for defence or opening the ball, but not for really sustained work. In which case, get a friend with as belt-fed.
