I lived near Kent State not long after the shootings and everything you have said was told to me at the time by locals.
Also, many of the students at Kent State - and certainly all those in or associated with SDS - were well-off kids from Cleveland. Their parents sent them there to save money, which they did by declaring the kids emancipated minors so they could then get the tuition rates for poor kids or even get scholarships meant for the poor. Naturally, all the males were there to escape the draft.
So these kids had utter contempt for the townies and profound contempt for anyone serving in the military or in the Guard. It was ugly.

Been reading your posts here for years and never realized. Have always had a problem correctly pronouncing Louisville spontaneously, the way the natives want to hear it, even though I knew how. I'd always just blurt out the way a Yankee (at least in my parts of Yankeevile) would pronounce it, more or less automatically. But now maybe I'll remember. So... Cool. And very clever, too!

This is simply the latest attack on the process of law and order, on the legal process itself. Any ruling that doesn’t meet the demands of the mob will be met with violence and as much destruction as the mob can muster.
