The teams 31-13 loss to San Francisco drew just a 3.9 rating locally. Ourand says the number is closer to a regular season Yankees rating than a normal NFL number. Year-over-year, that is a 62.8% drop from last years Week 2 matchup, although it should be pointed out that the Jets played on Monday Night Football in Week 2 of the 2019 season.

That would be a wasted effort; Americans will never go for soccer. The foreign replacements may go for it, but they don’t settle for MLS - they watch better leagues (and buy their merchandise) instead. My town had 3 starters on the US team when we hosted in 1994, and is 5 miles from one of the venues used (Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands); locals heralded this as the return of soccer’s popularity to the US.
26 years later I’m still waiting; the league limps along with a fraction of other sports’ revenues, and two women’s leagues have started and folded within that time.
