Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Monday that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will lie in state in National Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol. She will be the first woman to ever do so. She will also lie in repose at the Supreme Court, it was announced by the court.
Pelosi said the ceremony for Ginsburg will be held Friday, Sept. 25. It will be by invitation only, because of the coronavirus. Rosa Parks lay in honor at the U.S. Capitol, a distinction extended to private citizens, as opposed to government officials like Ginsburg. Ginsburg will also be the first Jewish person to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. For reference, thirty-three people have lain in state at the Captol, all men. It is an honor typically extended to presidents, congressmen or military leaders. The most recent to lie in state were Democrats – Rep. Elijah Cummings and John Lewis both civil rights leaders, in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

I could not agree more. You would think that she walked on water by listening to the dems and libs. Texas and Louisiana passed bills in their state legislators, that if a heart beat was detected in a baby after conception, then there would be no abortion. Heart beats in baby’s can be picked up around the 18 day after conception. That went to the USSC and RBG helped to shoot that down. I guess she couldn’t kill enough innocent babies fast enough.

No. It is not a minor distinction. The Rotunda depicts the Apotheosis of George Washington. It is magnificent and inspirational. Although historically significant, Statuary Hall is a repurposed space.

You knew this was coming, although not staying with the tradition of Jewish burials, especially during this week of the Jewish year. I guess the Rabi said okay, but this is for political theatre and nothing else.
My dream would be a meteor hits where this funeral will be and wipe out the democrats and the elites there.
I can't speak to Rosa Parks' prior knowledge on the subject, but I'm sure when it was explained to her that "lay in state" is a term used for members of the Government, and "lay in honor" is a term used for prominent private citizens, that she would fully understand the difference.

Since Justice Ginsburg was an active member of the government when she passed, her remains will lie in state. Ms. Parks was a very important, but a private, citizen when she passed, so her remains laid in honor.
I'm sure Ms. Parks would be able to appreciate the subtle, but substantial difference between the two.
