Western experts are weighing in on Chinese whistle-blower Dr. Li-Meng Yan’s report claiming to show COVID-19 was man-made in a lab — with several dismissing it as more of a theoretical think piece that offers no new evidence and includes flawed research.
“One of the major arguments [in the paper] is that [the virus] is so unique, it can’t have been generated naturally, the only explanation is that it’s man-made,” Dr. Gary Whittaker, a professor of virology at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, told The Post. “I would push back on that.”
Yan’s report, published late Monday on the website Zenote, says Sars-Cov-2’s unique genome shows it was created in a lab because the specific sequences of the mystery bug aren’t found in nature.
Jason Kaelber, a Rutgers University virologist and an assistant research professor at the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, said that’s simply not the case.
“All the weird things about Sars-Cov-2 are completely consistent with the sort of weirdness that happens in wild viruses all the time,” Kaelber told The Post.
“One reason why I haven’t gone looking for explanations of artificial origins is because we knew something like this was going to happen sooner or later,” he continued, citing the recent Zika virus outbreak and MERS in 2012, among others.
“This one is the worst since AIDS but it’s not the first and it won’t be the last. So if all the labs in the world shut down, these things would keep coming.”
Kaelber said Yan writes significantly about an apparent “restriction site” on the virus’s genome — a place where a scientist could cut out a piece from a naturally occurring bug and insert something man made — and dismissed it as just “seeing patterns where no patterns exist.”

HERE’s THE ANALOGY THAT Jason Kaelber, a Rutgers University virologist uses:
“It’s like seeing the blessed virgin in a piece of toast, the restriction sites that she finds are commonly occurring elsewhere in Sars-Cov-2 and in other related viruses and if you were to engineer in restriction sites to manipulate the spike gene, I certainly wouldn’t do it like that, there’s much better ways to do that,”
They HAVE to debunk it.
IF it ever gets out, with proof, that the Left colluded with the CCP on a deliberate man-made virus release, the repercussions will be totally disastrous for both the domestic and CCP communists. There’d be public hangings and rightly so.
This is the scientist that “ hasn’t even gone looking” because these things happen in nature all the time...

What their MOTIVES are is irrelevant.
The issue is this -— Is the SARS-COV-2 *DESIGNED* or is it a naturally occurring virus?
Dr. Li Meng-Yan argues based on her SCIENTIFIC observation that the features look DESIGNED. And Dr. Yan’s observations are not even uniquely her own.

The argument then has to be decided SCIENTIFICALLY. What a person’s motives are for supporting or debunking the study is another matter altogether.

Just because He would not do it like that doesn’t mean that other scientists won’t do such an experimentation. What he would do and what others would do are not scientific arguments.

I’m not interested in motives. I am interested in SCIENTIFIC ARGUMENTS — whether or not the virus was man-made or naturally occurring.
After we have established the former ( e.g. it was man-made ), we can have jolly good time determining and understanding WHAT it was designed but not until.

For those interested in delving into the science ( if you can understand it ), Doctor Li-Meng Yan, a scientist who studied some of the available data on COVID-19 has fled China and published her claims on Zenodo, an open access digital platform. This link below hosts the content of her scientific paper. It is not hidden and OPEN for all to read and critique.
She wrote that she believed COVID-19 could have been “conveniently created” within a lab setting over a period of just six months, and “SARS-CoV-2 shows biological characteristics that are inconsistent with a naturally occurring, zoonotic virus”.

Yes, I wonder if Jason Kaelber is a politicized Leftist with ties to the money and ideology to defend the CCP and Marxists?
I notice that these virologists never use math or statistics to argue what is common or uncommon in the wild. How can we trust that their opinions are anything more than a hunch? One thing we can take from this, regardless of who is actually correct about this coronavirus, is that virologists need more training in statistics to properly assess pandemics. It’s their job!
I still think the release of Covid 19 was the result of a lab accident.
If it were deliberate it would have been much more severe, and directly released in the target country like a biological attack, probably through a front group (Islamic terror group like ISIS or Hezbollah).
The article title is a little misleading. They are misrepresenting the US virologists.
Whittaker only points out yes the virus could happen in nature using the Cat cornonavirus as an example. This is not a dispute of it being man made.

I think you are right. The CCP cover it up, they do not like to admit failure. Plus the fact there would be huge law suites.
Probably Correct. However, the Chinese knew they would take an economic hit from it and thus exported it to the world. In effect this was an act of bio warfare.
