It might be a year or longer before we're able to safely go to theaters again, infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told actor Jennifer Garner in a recent Instagram Live conversation.
"When are we going to be able to sit in a theater and watch our favorite performers up on stage again?" Garner asked Dr. Fauci, who replied, "I think it's going to be a combination of a vaccine that has been around for almost a year and good public health measures."
Fauci admits that there are still a lot of variables, including the strength of the vaccine. You need a "really good vaccine" and "just about everybody" to get vaccinated in order to have a "degree of immunity in the general community that I think you can walk into a theater without a mask and feel like it's comfortable that you aren't going to be at risk."
Given how long it takes to mass-produce a vaccine, even if there were one created by the end of 2020, the soonest most people could be vaccinated is fall 2021. Broadway has been dark since March 12, and its current prospective reopening date is January 3.

I can make this categorical statement, though: dr fauci couldn’t safely sit in my living room.

I’d like to hear him or any of these a$$hats define “safe”. Spent a good part of my lifetime (never masked) encased in various size aluminum tubes at altitude with up to several hundred other poor souls, coming from or going to areas with diseases that would scare the shorts off this virus. Life cannot be conducted without some level of risk. And inevitably one of those risks, very often one of the fun ones that make life worth the living, will kill you.
The use-by date for Fauci has expired.
But if Biden is elected, Fauci will say that there has been phenomenal, miraculous progress, so his prior prediction no longer holds.
And no one will really care. It will be a minor bummer like the loss of the nba and nfl.
“Risk” has been redefined from you dying in an ICU after your lungs are destroyed to you acquiring enough SARS CoV 2 RNA in your nose to be detected by an ultrasensitive molecular assay.
“Long COVID” is beginning to appear in papers advocating prolonged lockdown, because there is SOME evidence that the infection has consequences which are not immediately apparent (they take a “long” time to appear).
Was Fauci squeezing his crotch while saying that?
