BUCKNER, Ky. (WAVE) - An Oldham County woman said she is devastated to find out her mothers cremated remains are lost in the mail.
Not knowing where my mother is, not being able to put her at rest, on holy ground, Amy Redford said, its not right.
Redford relied on the US Postal Service the only legal means of shipping cremated remains because she was recovering from surgery and unable to travel.
Redford sent the ashes to her sisters old address, an apartment from which she had recently moved. Postal inspectors cant seem to recover the package from where it was delivered after a week.
I dont have much else to think about at this point, but where is my mother? Redford said. On the outside of the box that has all of the information, her cremated remains. How could someone be so cruel?
The post office responded to her requests for help.
We deeply apologize for what happened and Postal Service officials in Jacksonville are working to get this resolved. said the spokesperson.
Redfords only recourse will be to collect the $100 it was insured for If the package is not recovered.
article says only usps can ship cremated remains, so yes
How did the woman get lost in the mail?
A joke in poor taste if I may.
Maybe they were accidentally sent to Keith Richards and he snorted them with coke.
Her ashes may be lost, but her posthumous vote for Biden will definitely be delivered on time.
They’ll probably show up around the same time and place as missing ballots.
Why would she send them to an address from which the sister had moved? Did the sister file a change of address with the post office? Lots of unanswered questions.
She will still get to vote by mail.
But remember, they can be trusted with ballots...
Then don’t tell ‘em the box contains cremated remains.
Prolly show up in May with her mail in ballot.
Why wouldnt human remains be treated as registered mail, as a matter of course?
This might not have been the smartest move she made. Sounds like the package was delivered but there was no one there to receive it.
And yes, she could not have used UPS or FedEx. USPS is the only legal option. But I doubt it would have made any difference. She had it sent to a place where she does not reside.
This article is somewhat more clear. She mailed the ashes to the wrong address. No word if the sister who moved was having mail forwarded. https://www.foxcarolina.com/ashes-of-kentucky-womans-mother-lost-in-mail/article_3cdc9761-b158-5c04-b9f0-30e47d4866ff.html
Kentucky Woman? Maybe Neil Diamond got the package, not Keith Richards.
Well.. Keith has a habit of snorting cremated ashes
How can they lose a woman in the mail!? o.O
I have no sympathy for this daughter. The very idea of burning a dead human body is unchristian. The fact that she put those remains in the US mail shows a callous degree of disrespect and a lack of decency.
‘I have no sympathy for this daughter. The very idea of burning a dead human body is unchristian.”
Yep... my uncle cremated his own mother and has yet to lay her to rest beside his father. Plot was paid for many years ago. It has now been 8 months since her passing.
Unchristian doesn’t begin to express my consternation over this behavior.
