Apple today released iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7.
This is probably the biggest iOS update in years... read all about it on the source, MacDailyNews, as there are too many improvements to list here.

They have a lot more functionality and are much faster, and in fact, are faster and more powerful than many desk top computers. The cameras are good enough that there have been several full length feature films shot on iPhones, and both professional nature National Geographic Magazine and Fashion Magazine photo shoots, even cover photography, have been done with iPhones.
The iPhone is far more secure than any Android device, as the iPhone is protected with a hardware Secure Enclave and Encryption Processor built into the silicon at the hardware of the System on a Chip, buried deep inside the processor but independent of the system processor and inaccessible by any apps or the system processor. The iPhone has a built-in encryption processor which encrypts the data on the iPhone to a 256bit AES standard with a hidden constructed key that even the user does not know, only knowing a part of what that key is made of. Apple does not know it either. The key itself is not even stored on the device, but is constructed anew each time the device is unlocked with the user’s passcode, which is part of that key and interspersed into the actual encryption key according to a hidden algorithm. The vast majority of Android phones rely on downloaded third-party Apps for encryption, if they are encrypted at all, and store the key somewhere on the phone in an unencrypted location.
Apple iOS devices receive OS upgrades on a regular schedule and security updates, for up to six years after the device was introduced. Android? Meh. Users are lucky to get perhaps one update or two... many manufacturers just don’t support OS updates. For some, updates require technical knowledge to modify the device to do.
The new iPhones are now water-resistant rated for 2 meters for up to 30 minutes, but there have been iPhones that have survived several months in the ocean at unknown depths that were still operational after charging. So they are actually pretty water proof. Same for the new Apple Watches. This applies to any iOS device rated with an IP68 rating and no head phone jack.
The Android phones have improved too. Competition raises all boats.
Something that helped along those lines was a few years ago when Apple opened up public beta testing of the OS updates. a LOT of bugs get squished befeore the public general release. I participated until iOS 13.5. Now I wait, just because I don’t like having the reporting/bug issues. LOL
Apple has only included the OS ability to DO contact tracing. Yout can turn it off... and you have to intentionally WANT contact tracing for it to do it. Despite those who grumble about Apple, I’m not sure there’s a tech company more seriouis about privacy.
“weasel fashion”? The notice of the update clearly had this in the pop-up info with the option to install or not. There was nothing weasel-like. Indeed, they were extremely open with that fact -
And you still have to accept the contact tracing - and the system in question has to be supported by officials in your area.

The twelve series will have a pocket-sized phone available in the Pro lineup, probably available late October. Base models have 4 GB ram, Pro units 6 GB, with a 128 GB floor for storage in all choices. The switch to OLED display may or not make your eyes happy, unless 120 Hz. refresh is available.
Pro Max is rumored to perhaps have a millimeter-wave capable modem, which would be most useful with Verizon. The *Visible* prepaid offshoot of Verizon may be capable of tapping into this offering, at a better price point than the Verizon branded prepaid plans. 5G probably will not provide useful service outside urban/suburban areas for some time yet.
Yep my one and only Android phone offered just 1 update only, and the place I bought it from had to send me a link just to find. You can't run fast enough to sell my another one.
Believe Apple Series 11 were tested at four meters for one-half hour.
Pro & Pro Max only for four meter test.
I have already installed the updates on all my devices. Rush said this morning that you don't have to change a single thing about how it looks or operates so it is a no brainer, the new stuff is available if you want to learn something new. If you don't want to deal with a new look or new functions you just don't activate any of it nothing changes as far as your personal user experience .
I know they were tested longer and deeper, but the Ingress Protection (IP) rating is an international standard that means a specific rating. The 6 means they are impervious to dust, with 6 being the maximum rating for that imperviousness. The second number is water and liquid protection. 4 means it’s protected from falling water like rain, 5 from wind driven water, 6 protected from very short immersion in water under 10 seconds, 7 can withstand immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, and 8 is for immersion in water greater than 1.5 meters for longer than 30 minutes.
For depths greater than that, they rate tested devices in numbers of Atmospheric pressures over normal (1 ATM ) the device can withstand where 15PSI over sea level air pressure is 1 ATM and is good for 10 meters, 5 ATM is OK for 50 meters, 10 ATM for 100 meters.
IPhone X which has only an IP67 rating (30 minutes, 1 meter), survived 8 hours in the ocean, no case, and still worked.
