They’re nuts...they have, in an effort to pander to every single constituency of theirs - no matter how small or how radical - gone off the deep end. There are no longer any moral standards in that party, other than hating Trump, conservatives and Western values, and in winning elections so that they can impose their ideas on everyone in the country.
Truman, JFK, Humphrey, Henry Jackson, Tip O’Neill and many other traditional Dems who held power from the '40s until the early '90s would no longer be welcome in their own party, so far have they moved to the unprincipled, collectivist Left.
It used to be that Dems loved this country and worked to make it better, rather than tearing it down or trying to destroy it (as many of their supporters have been literally doing since May).
They used to not merely accept, but celebrate, the values of a representative democracy, to love the fact that our country's political system protected the right of everyone to have their own point of view, to worship (or not) as they saw fit, etc. Now they embrace the cancel culture - they REVEL in destroying the careers, marriages, families and even the very lives of those with whom they disagree. The have become what they used to profess that they hated - McCarthyite, but to a Stalinist extreme in which political opponents become non-persons. The only thing left in going to this extreme of non-acceptance of differing views is the gulags and mass executions.
They used to respect police, and now automatically blame them for every problem imaginable.
They used to want to work with Republicans because they understood that a compromise solution to a problem that had 85% support was better for this country in the long run because it encouraged everyone to work together and have a degree of trust in those with a different political philosophy, rather than what they viewed as an ideal solution approved by 51% that would get reversed later and create resentment and distrust.
They used to respect election results that they didn’t like, and work to make their message and policies more appealing for the next election (that’s when they were liberals) - and since at least 2000 have done everything to deny and overturn their losses, because the only thing that they’re interested in is power (now that they are no longer liberals, but Leftists).
Again, the Republicans are far from perfect, but they aren’t nuts.

I agree with you, but I object to the term “McCarthyite”. It seems that Joe was correct about Communism, even if he was perhaps not the best person for the job of rooting them out.
Now his very name has become a slur. So sad.

I disagree. The Democrats haven’t changed at all.
The difference is that now they’re out in the open. They’ve become so desperate to hang onto power, and our tax dollars, that they’re willing to risk everything.
Reminds me of the nobility in the French and Soviet revolutions. They think they’ll be in charge after the chaos starts.
