I agree with you, but I object to the term “McCarthyite”. It seems that Joe was correct about Communism, even if he was perhaps not the best person for the job of rooting them out.
Now his very name has become a slur. So sad.
May I suggest this book:

It’s a long tough read, but extremely well documented, and quite relevant, considering the situation now.
“Now his very name has become a slur. So sad.”
However, sitting here 7 weeks before what is literally the most important election in our lifetimes, we’re not going to change any minds among Democrats - and we NEED to reach those relatively few who are sane, decent and patriotic. We NEED their help to prevent what would essentially be our own “October Revolution,” and we can only reach them by using terms and concepts that they are familiar and comfortable with. Joe McCarthy as one of the more evil characters in US history is one of those things (not facts, things) that they accept and are familiar with - so let’s use that to stop those who are planning to turn this country into a Stalinist dictatorship.
Thank you! I get sick of our own disparaging a good man. McCarthy was rightand we need to defend his memory.
This is what I said to some jerk on here who sounded like he was drunk and trying to highjack the thread. McCarthy was right there was and still blatantly is, Communists in Hollywood. Instead of being blacklisted, the Communists today are running things.
Over the years I have had great interest in the subject and read many books on it, and “Blacklisted by History” is the best.
The best.
Joseph McCarthy was an American hero, and he purchased our country a couple of decades by making Communism “unfashionable”.
I dislike seeing his name used as an epithet, but I recognize that many use it as shorthand.
