Some expectant Black and Pacific Islander mothers in San Francisco will get $1,000 a month during their pregnancy, officials announced, as the city looks to improve a longstanding racial gap in birthing outcomes.
Mayor London Breed on Monday introduced the Abundant Birth Project, which will give a basic income supplement to 150 Black and Pacific Islander women during pregnancy. They’ll get $1,000 a month through their pregnancy and for the first six months postpartum, “with a goal of eventually providing a supplement for up to two years post-pregnancy,” the mayor announced.
“Providing guaranteed income support to mothers during pregnancy is an innovative and equitable approach that will ease some of the financial stress that all too often keeps women from being able to put their health first,” Breed said in a statement. “The Abundant Birth Project is rooted in racial justice and recognizes that Black and Pacific Islander mothers suffer disparate health impacts, in part because of the persistent wealth and income gap.”

Hispanic women have about the same rates of premature or low weight birth as white women. Asians tend to do better.
Even well-off, educated black women have higher rates of pregnancy complications than similar white women. The only acceptable explanation is stress due to racism. Not stress due to living in a black community. Not physiology because of adaptations to Africa or the hardships of slavery.
African immigrant black women have better pregnancy outcomes than American born black women. Racism would affect both.
They aren’t going to be churning out babies for 1000 a month unless the city expands this program from 150 women.

Honestly I’d rather not get the money. It’s much harder to lose it even after two years then have it at all. These women will get used to having it and then one day it’s gone. Ouch!
All this race crap will backfire.
People see through it and many are getting fed up.
I predict you’ll see a tremendous increase in negative birthing outcomes in these populations given the amount of drugs and alcohol a grand a month can procure.
