I am leaving New York next week. Add me to the list. Another tick in the New York is dead column. Or maybe in the Cowards who cant wait out the pandemic column. Wag your finger at me or shake your head in disgust. Tut tut. Tsk tsk. Dont worry. Im already doing it to myself.
Let me backtrack. I was born at Mount Sinai on the Upper East Side. I spent my childhood in 20 different apartments across the Upper West Side and beyond, shuttling between my moms and my dads. My dad moved to Connecticut, then Montreal, then Japan. I switched from attending private school on the Upper West Side to a magnet school on the Upper East, where I met most of my best friends. I went to college in Boston (okay, fine, Harvard), immediately moved back home after college, then set up shop in the various neighborhoods young people flock to across New York East Village, Murray Hill, Williamsburg.

One of the most annoying I have ever read, on any topic.
If he is a Democrat then moving to New Jersey is fine with me especially if he thinks Joe Biden should be President.
Joisy is a beautiful state. Plenty of awesome places to live. And a few places to avoid. I’d have absolutely no problem leaving NYC for NJ. Not comparable anyway.
Curious...
Hey Sachi, have you been voting Democrat all these years? Yeah? Well quit your bitchin then putz.
NJ pols: Oh good, fresh meat. Now we have a brand new excuse to raise taxes: increased demand on infrastructure.
I grew up in the Bronx in the 50s and N.J. was place we went to abandon cars. You need to move farther away than Jersey. I left in 1974 and have lived in cities and small towns in a dozen states. I never regretted leaving NYC and have never went back even for a visit. I live in a small Southern city that has everything I need, (art, music, fine dining, recreation). I wont say where I live because about a hundred New York expats move here every week. New York left me in the seventies, fear destroys any quality of life. Perhaps, if you make seven figures and have to work there New Jersey is a lesser hell.
Chuckled at that...
:)
My favorite lines from the movie “Long Kiss Goodnight”
- Samantha Caine (Charly): Easy, sport. I got myself outta Beirut once, I think I can get outta New Jersey.
- Mitch Henessey: Yeah? Well, don’t be so sure. Others have tried and failed. The entire population, in fact.
Amusing to me that Charleston SC was the British last hope to defeat the colonies.
Now, it’s the ‘establishment’ of our age’s last hope.
“thought there were still Indians running wild in Jersey”
There still are—Pakistanis, too!
Geeze Jersey? What’s the difference?
No one would have to move anywhere if they would stop VOTING DEMOCRAT! Stop voting for illegals to get *free health care. Stop allowing these corrupt POS into office. Take responsibility for their life choices. Democrats bring nothing but destruction and higher costs of living. It’s what they do!
Then we all could live safely in our communities.
*taxes go up for those legal residents and citizens
HAS THAT STATE OF YOURS? STILL BURNING TO THE GROUND?
“One of the most annoying I have ever read, on any topic.”
Several paragraphs in, I started skimming hoping that I would get to the author’s point. It went from plodding to boring to ah, heck, I have better things to do today.
Ironic since the people I know in NJ think Manhattan is a wood chipper that shreds people.
“There was always a chance she would be basic.” Who says that about their child?
I’ve lived in 8 states and 4 foreign countries. Among the places I lived was NYC briefly. There I discovered that there is a species of NYer which has never left the city. I mean ever. I think they would shrivel up and die if they ever did. Of all the places I lived, NYC has some of THE most provincial and myopic people you will meet anywhere.
I don’t even need to ask what “city values” and “voting for the right guy” mean to her. At least she moved to New Jersey which is an equally Leftist infested shithole rather than spreading the cancer of Leftism to a healthy red state like so many other NYers and New Englanders do once they realize how badly they’ve fouled their own nest.
Good, stay out of the red states, Democrat.
Yep. It’s out of control.
