The Creek Fire was first sparked on Friday evening and has exploded to 166,965 acres as of Wednesday evening with 0% containment. At least 365 structures in Fresno County have been damaged or destroyed, and more than 5,000 are threatened. Officials say 30,000 residents of Fresno County and 15,000 residents of Madera County have been evacuated.
The fire started near the communities of Shaver Lake, Big Creek, and Huntington Lake but has quickly spread. CAL FIRE officials say they do not expect to have fire contained until October 15. Scroll down for a list of evacuation orders in Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa counties.
How does the fire affect the FR servers?
I have no idea. I doubt it’s close yet, but it’s put of control.
I believe the FR servers are in San Jose somewhere!!
The servers are near San Jose at a server farm..
The fire threats are over in San Jose. But it was dark all day here, because of the fire.
I would hate to lose FR between now and the elections.
October 15!!!!
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s later.
What do Democrats and their media call “166,965 acres as of Wednesday evening with 0% containment.”?
A good start...
The article seems to indicate an evacuation for Oakhurst, but I cannot find a map of the evacuation area(s). I have a close relative in Oakhurst. Damn.
I’d check in with him, but he was already very busy getting ready for a possible evac, over a day ago.
Questions:
Is there any website that shows daily progress of the fire? (Sort of like a NWS radar loop for several days time, tho’ intensity would likely not be shown.)
Is there any website that shows projected daily progress of the fire? (Sort of like a TV precipitation projection, similarly for a few days time, tho’ intensity would likely not be shown.)
Can anyone find a map of the evacuation area(s)?
Our local 6 pm Tu. TV news had a totally impressive (scary) satellite loop of the fires. Can anyone find and post this? I assume it is a GOES type weather sat view, but specific to the fires on the West Coast.
There is a map somewhere, maybe on Cal Fire. There isn't much progress to report. Still at 0% containment, and the people I heard from said no evidence of firefighters.
Residents in Oakhurst living east of highway 41 to road 200 have been advised as of a few days ago to prepare to evac.
Advisements in this fire have been common pre-order to evac. What you want to watch for in the news is if the Cal Fire incident team can hold off the flames from Bass Lake—east of Oakhurst. The battle for Bass Lake is perhaps the most significant coming up today & into weekend.
If they protect Bass Lake, Oakhurst will likely remain safe.
The reason they have fewer firefighters is due to CA is fighting 28 major fires...spreading out 14,000 among them. One of the incident team leads said at briefing last night that they have 1,336 fire fighters on it when they normally would have on a fire that size 3,000-4,000.
To me, that fails to explain why CA hasn’t pulled more personnel from other states. The feds brought in a 2nd top-level incident team from the Great Basinto manage the northern frontline of the fire. But I haven’t heard personnel from other states coming in.
Ok, I was unsure of the terminology: I guess “Evacuation Warning” is the pre-evacuation status you state. I stand corrected.
The CalFire website is stunningly devoid of the kind of visual / graphical information that NWS and a host of others provide routinely for even mild weather events. OK, granted CalFire busy fighting fires, but you’d think the state could at least contract with someone at fairly modest cost to do it.
So far I’ve found only maps of the current (sort of) fire boundary.
That’s pretty scary, too...
Noted. Good info. Thanks!
Ah, I see that I had skipped right past the “Evacuation Warning” heading above “Oakhurst” as I scrolled down the list. Sleepy... ‘Tis well past my bedtime!
This article (pseudonym) from 2018 is quite interesting and addresses an aspect of these fires:
http://themillenniumreport.com/2018/12/directed-energy-weapons-now-being-used-around-the-world/
excerpt:
. . .Notice how every home on this block burnt totally flat. Not a single item leftno refrigerators or bath tubs, granite counters, ect. Not only did the trees again not burn even though the fires were at least six times the required heat to burn wood; bath tubs which are made of ceramic and requires six times the heat of wood, burnt totally, were totally vaporized. If you look at the temperature chart in Celsius (linked above), youll see that ceramic requires 1,800 F to 3,000 F to burn and wood 374 to 500 degrees F.. .
