A 41-year-old woman died after hiking in extreme heat in the Santa Monica Mountains on Saturday with temperatures above 110 degrees.
The woman was hiking with a friend and began to feel sick, so the pair turned around and headed back toward the car, according to preliminary reports from the LA County Sheriff's Department. Her friend called paramedics after the woman collapsed.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived on the scene where they conducted CPR on the woman for about 20 or 30 minutes, said Arteaga, but were unable to revive her.

I never once experienced heat stroke on a barstool.
I remember road marches where very in shape fellow soldiers would collapse.
Even I won’t hike in this weather....
;)
Lived and worked here in West Texas for 68 years, 45 years in the oil fields. You don’t get out in the heat unless you have to and then you better be prepared. To go hiking in 110 degree weather is just plain stupid.
These health kick fads will kill you.
Was she wearing a mask?
You just cant fix STUPID, and you wonder WHY CA. is under one party rule!!! OMG!!!
I laughed because both words work lol.
I watched a guy drop during basic. I found out later he died dang near instantly.
really?
outdoor people who know nothing of heat stroke?
weird
sad and shouldn’t have happened. the heatwave was well advertised here in LA all the week before.
Not much in altitude. its in Santa Monica.
true but it’s pretty exposed there - not much shade.
Tennis shoes dont sound as bad. The flip flops will shred your toes before they fall apart on the rough rock trails here. They are sheer insanity to wear.
Yes indeed.

What triggers the series of events when you stop getting rid of excess heat?
I trained at 29 Palms/Ft. Irwin years ago in 113 degree heat. We followed the Israel prescription of downing a quart of water every half hour. Even if I didn’t feel thirsty, that quart went down easily. We kept the heat strokes down to a minimum.
