Lived and worked here in West Texas for 68 years, 45 years in the oil fields. You don’t get out in the heat unless you have to and then you better be prepared. To go hiking in 110 degree weather is just plain stupid.

What triggers the series of events when you stop getting rid of excess heat?

I trained at 29 Palms/Ft. Irwin years ago in 113 degree heat. We followed the Israel prescription of downing a quart of water every half hour. Even if I didn’t feel thirsty, that quart went down easily. We kept the heat strokes down to a minimum.
