Police said they were called to a home in Glendale Friday night with a report of a boy who had threatened people with a weapon. The young man reportedly ran and was shot by an officer after being pursued by police.
The childs mother, Golda Barton, told KUTV-TV that her son has autism and she had called police because he was having a breakdown and needed a crisis intervention team.
Barton claimed she told police her son was unarmed and warned them that he did not know how to regulate his behavior.
A few minutes after two officers who had arrived went through the front door of the home, Barton said she heard an order to get on the ground" and several gunshots.

There is a Somali refugee family of three living in a home next to us-—the only thing separating our home from that home is a street. There is apparently some refugee foundation that pays their bills. We live in a very nice neighborhood.
There is a mother, an adult son, and another adult son who is seriously mentally ill. None of them have jobs.
At least once a month the mother calls the police to their home because the mentally ill son will not take his anti-psychotic medications.
I’ve complained to the police about this several times, that I don’t feel safe with neighbors who regularly call the police on one of their family members. The police told me there was nothing they could do about the situation because the mentally ill son “has not been violent yet.”
Great, after mentally ill son finds a gun or goes on a stabbing spree, then maybe the police can do something about it.
“one of the 1st things we were taught in orientation was how to properly and safely do a takedown...”
They didn’t teach us anything. They put me and my friend in what you could call the lock down building because we were both big and it was bad. I got bitten on the hand and got Hep B. Nasty.
What I find simple-minded is the inability to answer a simple question - how does your opinion/position on the police differ from BLM?
This statement:
Any police department (or university faculty, or military unit, etc.) is only as good as the worst psycho they tolerate.
Which is like a mantra you use holds that all police are as bad as their worst psychopath. ACAB.
BLM fully agrees.
***Autism can result in very out of control behavior and not all 13 year olds are small in stature.***
Absolutely true! I remember a 13 year old kid who was a danger to everyone around him.
His family sent him to a mental institution for observation, and for two weeks they saw NOTHING wrong with him and wanted to release him to his parents.
They asked for the hospital to keep him for another week or so, and a few days later the boy exploded and the staff saw what a real terror he was.
He is now on medication.
You should aughta ping someone when you're diss'n them.
Wow-I never got bitten, but another caseworker did once-by an autistic 18 year old woman who had a habit of biting without warning-she didn’t catch anything though. i got punched a few times and got a knife pulled on me in the kitchen of the semi-independent living group home-myself and a fellow caseworker there were able to defuse that situation-needless to say, that client was taken into supervised residential and his anti-psychotic meds readjusted...
I have two Asperger’s daughters. For them it is focus. They focus ALL their attention on a problem or on learning something. One is happily married with three kids and is homeschooling them. That focus is amazing. The other has that and also total recall. No one in the family ever argues with her if she says something happened when she was three months old. She doesn’t know what people said because she didn’t talk yet but she knows who was present and who was not and where they were in relation to each other. She says she remembers being born and it doesn’t even raise my eyebrow. She is not married because she could never learn to talk to a potential suitor. If he raised a subject she told him everything she had read or heard about it and he would feel intimidated to open his mouth again. She is 50 and still pretty and still gets occasional first dates but never second.
I want the police to not hire people who FAILED the required psych eval. I want police departments to 'counsel out' the known sociopaths in their ranks. I want the HR flacks who knowingly hired a known psychopath held personally and financially responsible for any harm they cause while on duty. I want strong honest and trustworthy police departments.
The BLM wants to indiscriminately destroy every police department, every cop, good or bad, and replace them with their own untrained violent psychopaths.
Perhaps you can discern the difference, perhaps not.
You can tel, me if it’s none of my business. Was the first drug Keppra and the second lamotrigine?
I also find gabapentin to cause me rages and memory loss.
My wife taught LD kids for 35 years. She had more than one 7 or 8 year old “problem child” who was heavier and stronger than most of the adult personnel, male or female, in the school.
Uh oh. Those people I live with (what are their names again?) are doomed...
Jabbing the boy quickly with hadol could help. Maybe the mother could ask the doctor to prescribe a couple doses to have on hand, just in case.
Raising a child with disabilities, including seizures is harder than most parents with neurotypical children can imagine.
The post ictial stage of seizures can be especially difficult.
Could the child's violence problems be due to barbituates?
I learned long ago while working volunteer with halfway houses and the foster system to never call the police on a child who seems to be getting abused unless I firmly believe the child is in sever danger of being killed. If Child Services takes the child the foster care systems are awful and an abused child remanded to a professional foster family stands a solid chance of frying pan to fire progression.
I sent you a message.
“Seems to me that liberal cities should tax themselves to pay for special out-of-control lunatic containment squads (OCLCS) within their PDs. These would have special training in tactics and mental illness symptoms, plus equipment such as nets, adhesive gloop, tranquilizer darts, whatever.”
I’d be thrilled if maybe once in a while one of the cops would have a taser or bean-bag round ready.
The mom says she told them he was unarmed. No weapon was found.
Any group is only as bad as the worst psycho they don’t get rid of. If you don’t agree with that, that’s your right, but be it an executive board, a college, or any group, why should any sane person respect someone who knows a fellow is a POS and doesn’t do anything about it?
If you have 80 good cops, or protesters, or soldiers, and 10 assholes who do bad things to people and behave shamefully, most rational people believe you actually have 90 people behaving shamefully, and that we don’t want to hear the 80 ‘good’ ones bitching about being smeared with the same brush; they have no one to blame but themselves.
YMMV; you wouldn’t be the first person to have few, or no, problems with assholes in positions of power.
