If the cabin crew simply had coffee delivered by intravenous drip lines then there’d be no spills.

Obviously, the pilots failed to check the oil under the hood...

If it CAN happen, it WILL happen.
The trick is having the right people around that can think outside the process well enough to be able to come up with those implausibilities.
In my line of work (railway signal systems engineering), we had one guy in particular whom i referred to as ‘King of the Goofy Stuff.’ He would routinely spot combinations of scenarios that the rest of us just shook our heads over.
I usually walked out of his office feeling simultaneously stupid and better-educated than when I entered. By the way, he was raised in the coal fields of Southern Ohio and might have actually completed high school.

As soon as I read the opening line, I had the same thought about the movie “Fate is the Hunter.”
Wally, thanks for the link to the entire movie. If I remember correctly, the paper coffee cups in the movie didn’t have a top.
Here is the cast list from IMDB:

The first paragraph explains better...
Some of our readers may recall an article we wrote in January regarding spilled beverages being to blame for two Airbus A350 engine-shutdown incidents in January and November. Both led to diversions with one flight operated by Delta Air Lines flight while the other incidents airline remains unidentified but was possibly an Asiana service. Airbus has now developed a solution to prevent the same unfortunate issues from taking place should liquid spill in the same area.
And I thought spilling liquid into my laptop keyboard was bad news!

Good catch. That is exactly what I thought of when I read this.

I hoped Ted Striker had conquered his drinking problem. Evidently not.

"What do you think of this whole spilled beverage in the cockpit situation? ... Was it a result of a lack of foresight, or is the blame squarely on pilots?"
Ummmmm, Airbus might have foreseen spilled vin ordinare, or tea, but coffee?
