If it CAN happen, it WILL happen.
The trick is having the right people around that can think outside the process well enough to be able to come up with those implausibilities.
In my line of work (railway signal systems engineering), we had one guy in particular whom i referred to as ‘King of the Goofy Stuff.’ He would routinely spot combinations of scenarios that the rest of us just shook our heads over.
I usually walked out of his office feeling simultaneously stupid and better-educated than when I entered. By the way, he was raised in the coal fields of Southern Ohio and might have actually completed high school.
There is a book, originally written in post war Russia called Along came the inventor which was written to train managers (and engineers) a process for problem solving. When you got used to applying it to systems, you would be pulling some amazing stuff...out of the air. (Or out of your backside.)
It is written like something out of Soviet Russia. But it has some good ideas.
I find Railroad signals interesting and COOL!! Would love to learn more about them.
