Retired airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger on Friday condemned President Trump’s reported comments on fallen U.S. service members, saying the commander in chief has “completely failed to uphold his oath.”
Sullenberger, an Air Force veteran who landed the famous "Miracle on the Hudson," wrote a thread following the bombshell report this week from The Atlantic accusing the president of disparaging dead military veterans as “losers” and “suckers.”
“For the first time in American history, a president has repeatedly shown utter and vulgar contempt and disrespect for those who have served and died serving our country,” the former pilot wrote. “While I am not surprised, I am disgusted by the current occupant of the Oval Office.”
Sullenberger argued that Trump has shown himself to be “completely unfit for and to have no respect for the office he holds.” …

Part of the reason some people may believe stories like these is how Trump publicly denigrated McCain and the family of the dead muslim. He is a little careless with words. McCain was an idiot and a jerk and an adulterer and perhaps much worse. Going after him in a way that seemed to belittle his POW captivity was unwise.
Doing one heroic act does not make this man an authority on the veracity of a slimeball reporter’s article. He really needs to just sit down and shut up.
On the other side of that, the narrative surrounding McCain did and does bear scrutiny, particularly in light of his “maverick” behavior while in office.
And it does not look like Trump’s demeanor in that regard is costing him any voters.

My husband always says that Trump comment was a huge mistake--McCain fought Trump at every turn for the rest of his life and maybe partly because of that (but maybe he would have done that anyway). Just not very wise when trying to get stuff passed in the Senate.
Still, that in no way means Trump would have called World War I American soldiers "losers."
This airplane driver has sullied his whole life’s work with one thoughtless comment.
Or, maybe it wasn’t thoughtless. Maybe he has been a bad person all his life and we did not know until he opened his mouth.

Sully achieved hero status (deservedly perhaps). He became comfortable with the acclaim and with going around giving inspirational speeches. No problem there. Somewhere along the line he entered the political arena. I don’t like him any more because he’s gone nasty on Trump. That wouldn’t have been a problem if his remarks had a solid basis, but he’s just repeating what other Trump haters are saying. He’s become a cheerleader for the losing team.
