Despite near-daily efforts to show America how woke they are, or, because of it, the NBAs playoff ratings are still tanking.
Weekday afternoon games have certainly hurt, but the first weekend of the NBA Playoffs was no ratings bonanza either, Sports Media Watch reported.
Viewership on ABC is down 23 percent and the numbers are down 20 percent overall compared to last years playoffs
The Lakers win ranks as ABCs least-watched playoff opener in five years (2015 Pelicans-Warriors: 3.49M), with the caveat that this year marked the first time since 2004 that it did not air a game on the opening day of the postseason, Sports Media Watch added.
The league has tried to blame the coronavirus and its effects; however, SportsBusiness Daily recently noted that ratings for last season were also bad, as the 2018-2019 season lost 12 percent in viewership. That, of course, was pre-pandemic.

Channel surfing 2 seconds on NBA game, and see painted on court “Black Lives Matter”
Most NBA players are void of any knowledge in economics. Theyve spent their lives shooting hoops. Oh, and rapping. They look at money as a never ending flow and more can be printed if needed. Either way theyre stars so gimme dat.
Not victims at all. Perpetrators. Or just traitors.
Don’t forget who these media outlets usually sample in their polls and the low 23% number makes more sense. I don’t know anybody that watches the NBA, do you?
Im surprised the decline isnt bigger. We have bars and restaurants closed in many places around the country right now. How many of those places have TVs that would have been tuned in to sports broadcasts?
Read my lips, fellow Americans, this is simple.......”Sports & Politics” never mix well. If our athletes want to grind their personal politics into their professional daily lives, then they will be abandoned by their faithful fan followers. If they so desire to play in political games then I suggest they do it on their own time and at their own expense.
If I so desire to watch a football, basketball, hockey game or, a NASCAR Race I do not want their political bent to become part of that activity...period!!! People like LeBron James and company are just killing the goose that lays their egg. Too bad....they are so taken in by themselves, filled with false ego, to see how stupid and foolish they are!!!
I recall some years back in the mid ‘90s period, someone in a discussion I was in on said Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently remarked about how the NBA by that time had way considerably fewer players who really knew how to play basketball compared to when he started out as a player in that league. You wonder if the slam dunk along with how big and strong and fast the players are nowadays compared to the 1960s to early 1980s era greatly contributed to that.
The league has tried to blame the coronavirus and its effects; however, SportsBusiness Daily recently noted that ratings for last season were also bad, as the 2018-2019 season lost 12 percent in viewership. That, of course, was pre-pandemic.
I'm going to assume the 12% drop in TV viewership was for the regular season in 2018-19.
In addition:
Other ratings reckoning also finds the NBA has lost viewers. ShowBuzz, for instance, noted that the league lost 28 percent in the important 18-49 age bracket.
I guess that may explain the pandering to the SJWs out there, but good luck with that.
GOOD
Teams with locked-in, high salary contracts are going to be screwed.
I hear the the word NBA and I immediately think of LeBron’s face. That does it for me.
Self inflicted wound. Jerks never should have refused to play. Selfish uneducated morons playing a game for money.
I’m fascinated by the fact nobody’s talking about demographics.
Wonder if that silence means the NBA is well and truly screwed.
Their ratings have nothing to do with coronovirus,,,, (hint, hint, it’s their politics!!!) /sarcasm off
Maybe their demographic was too busy “shopping” for Nikes and Luis Vuitton....
And you can imagine that that is in contrast to the ‘60s that featured Bill Russell or Bob Cousy or Wilt Chamberlain or ‘70s with Jabbar or Erving or ‘80s and ‘90s with Johnson, Bird, and certainly Jordan.
Amen! No one or nothing else!
I cannot remember the last time I intentionally turned on a basketball game.
