Just to clarify, if you have to rack it just before you shoot, you’re gone. “Easy to rack” better be at home. .380’s are fine, as long as they are ready to shoot. “Cocked and locked” for the 1911-style.

My friend’s wife carries a “Lady Smith” .38 S&W hammerless. No fuss, just pull the trigger.

No .38 “+P”, and certainly not .357 Magnum - you have to have good hand/wrist strength to use those, especially the short-barreled versions that will fit in a purse. .38 will do nicely.

My wife carries ME, cause she couldn’t shoot anybody.
