How Well Do You Know Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion's 'WAP' Music Video? (#1 on the charts) Take Our Quiz
Billboard ^ | 8/21/20 | Heran Mamo

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have hosted a "WAP"-ping celebration of female sexuality with $1 million cash prizes after their collaboration debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (chart dated Aug. 22).

And the music video attracted more than 120 million YouTube views (at publishing time of this piece), reeling in tributes to icons before them and ushering in new hotties to join them at the playful, splashy zoo-like house. "WAP" is being heralded as an empowering anthem and visual for Black women who unabashedly take the reins of their own narrative, one that's typically untold or degraded in an industry ravaged by misogynoir, and paint their own watercolor picture of success with every color in the book.

So to keep the celebration of "WAP" going, we've prepared an 11-question quiz testing your knowledge of the ins and outs of the luxurious mansion featured in the music video and its esteemed guests. Test your knowledge below -- remember, 60% needed for a passing grade -- and let's hope there are some winners in this house.

Nothing in history is new but in the past song writers at least made an attempt at cleverness. This song is just the modern overhyped version of “Da Doo Run Run” by the Crystals from 1956. “The more things change...”

Kasem was a jerk in real life.

I quickly tired of his schtick back in the day.

Of course, Roberta Flack's The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face "permanently" on his playlist didn't help...

Wasn’t Cardi B that hard-hitting investigative reporter that Joe Biden chose to do his first interview after popping his head out of the basement last week?

I was in Egypt in 1997 and was approached by a man who asked in a heavy accent, “You American?”
I wasn't sure of his sentiment, but replied that yes I was.
He gave me two thumbs up and said, “Scooby Doo!”
It was surreal and unforgettable.

I’ve seen the explicit version of the “WAP” video.

It’s not a “celebration of female sexuality”, it’s more of a modern day minstrel-show.

But it has ALWAYS been that way. Each older generation sees the newer generation as being the evil corrupter of youth. In the 1600s it was Thomas Morton's "sundry rhymes and rhythms, tending to lasciviousness." It the 1700s it was the jailing of Zenger for criticizing the Governor of NY. In the 1800s it was the suppression of abolitionist phamplets in the South. In the 1900s it ranged from parents not wanting schools to put on productions of Sweeney Tood to white parents in the 50s who didn't want their kids listening to black music. There has always been some form or art or music or or literature or whatever, that offends someone else. This generation doesn't hold a monopoly on being offensive.

Self-censoring has always been involved, with varying degrees of success. How many of us had that elderly relative who'd say the most ghastly things about this group or that group at Thanksgiving? And I'm not talking about race - it could be religion, nationality, or whatever. And yet, we'd gather together every year in November to ask the Lord's blessings, and on the drive home we had a chance to explain why Aunt Gertrude thinks all goombahs are mobbed-up.

I believe it is on that drive home, on those instances where people select out of self-censorship, where true learning and growth and understanding (and, dare I say, parenting) blossom - "the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."

I totally get your point...Cardi B isn't Lady Gaga who isn't Madonna who isn't Donna Summer who isn't Tina Turner who isn't etc. WAP isn't Relax which isn't Feel Like Making Love which isn't Satisfaction which isn't etc. But I never trusted society to raise my kids or help them or self-censor to protect their tender ears.

Quite the contrary, that is MY job, and increasingly parents have come to realize that the only difference between protecting kids from bad content today vs yesterday is that, the mask is off today...there was always an agenda with Disney movies - now it's out in the open. In a twisted sort of way society's lack of self-censorship and flagrant and hidden attempts to take over the job of parents and turn kids into statist snowflakes, has undoubtedly resulted in more Deplorable children being raised. And because these kids have better discernment skills since they weren't shielded, they often use the same tools of the oppressor to turn the hunted into hunter. Alinsky, all your tactics are belong to us.

This song, sharing the same title as the Cardi B opus only with the letters rearranged, was so hated by liberals and welfare state socialists that that bands like the Glenn Miller Orchestra couldn't record it due to opposition from the musicians' union.

In what sense is this “music”?

It is vile dis-civilization.

"WAP" is being heralded as an empowering anthem and visual for Black women who unabashedly take the reins of their own narrative,

Or its simply promoting them to be low IQ whores who will be used for their sex.

I continue to be amazed how far some in society can go claiming black is white, down is up, wet is dry, evil is good - and get away with it.

come to realize the potentially deleterious effect of what they do on their own children, but don’t mind getting paid for adversely affecting yours

That reminds me of the tech executives who make sure their own children don't use their beebers, while trying to addict yours and making it as difficult as possible for parents to control it.

As societies decline morally and spiritually the pervasiveness of what makes raising ones own children more of a challenge increases. A Cardi B would never have been a point of discussion what, 20 years ago? Now, she’s e pluribus unum.

In time, your children will be (not might be, will be) in an ever-increasing minority, eventually finding themselves confined to the very fringes of society. And why? Because WAP’s here today will be the Disney Channel of tomorrow.

It should be left up for all to see. It was brutal for Time Warner when Charleton Heston attended a stockholders meeting and simply read the lyrics to “Cop Killer” our loud to a packed room, and let them know they were selling that as a product.

Leave it up and don’t listen to the babies who want it hidden and removed from the site.

But 20 years ago it was Brittany Spears and her live kiss with Madonna. That was also around the time of the Teletubbies. We survived her and them. In fact that kind of sensationalism woke up sleeping parents to the subversive dimension of many elements of culture. Those parents circa 2020 are now Deplorables and gave us President Trump. That worked out pretty good.

We agree on the intrinsic risk of caustic culture. We disagree on the ability of the individual to enact controls to render an acceptable residual risk.

Exactly... leave it up. Banning it from here is childish. We want to fight the enemy, but please don’t make anyone look at what we are up against. That’s too scary! /s
