How Well Do You Know Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion's 'WAP' Music Video? (#1 on the charts) Take Our Quiz
Billboard ^ | 8/21/20 | Heran Mamo

Posted on 08/22/2020 5:00:12 AM PDT by Libloather

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have hosted a "WAP"-ping celebration of female sexuality with $1 million cash prizes after their collaboration debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (chart dated Aug. 22).

And the music video attracted more than 120 million YouTube views (at publishing time of this piece), reeling in tributes to icons before them and ushering in new hotties to join them at the playful, splashy zoo-like house. "WAP" is being heralded as an empowering anthem and visual for Black women who unabashedly take the reins of their own narrative, one that's typically untold or degraded in an industry ravaged by misogynoir, and paint their own watercolor picture of success with every color in the book.

So to keep the celebration of "WAP" going, we've prepared an 11-question quiz testing your knowledge of the ins and outs of the luxurious mansion featured in the music video and its esteemed guests. Test your knowledge below -- remember, 60% needed for a passing grade -- and let's hope there are some winners in this house.

A few days ago, verse one of this garbage was included in an FR thread. That thread was pulled pretty quickly because the lyrics are just that vile. If you want to find out what young girls may be singing about these days, please look up the lyrics. This crap may never actually get played on any radio station because most of the words will have to be bleeped out. Truly sickening. Billboard celebrates.

Geez, and here I am, old enough to remember when “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood was considered “obscene” by the BBC.

Cardi-B’s song and video make “Relax” look quaint and only vaguely/harmlessly naughty by comparison.

“And the music video attracted more than 120 million YouTube views...”

Most of those views were probably preadolescent boys doing what preadolescent boys do at that age. “WAP” passes for what preadolescent boys used to do with Dad’s Playboy magazine while hiding under the bed cover with a flashlight.

My teacher back at GA Southern had a subscription to Billboard. I never liked it, because it was all about what was popular, not anything truly musical or artistic.

I DJ'd at the radio station (WVGS - The Voice Of GA Southern), and they had a subscription to Melody Maker, out of the U.K. MUCH more interesting.

And nobody even knows who Casey Kasem was anymore.

You may have "had to look it up", but you didn't have to print it here. We all know where this genre of music usually goes (to the culture basement).

This one will probably get yanked as well.

Better to bury our heads in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist while exclaiming, "What's a Cardi B?"

I happened to have read that thread, and then the lyrics.

Xaviera Hollander was classy by comparison.

How much of my tax money goes to people who spend it on this stuff?

Better to bury our heads in the sand and pretend it doesn’t exist while exclaiming, “What’s a Cardi B?”

That’s how you get your geriatric FR bonafides.
Meanwhile, society devolves further, and their kids/grandkids are listening to this garbage.

It used to be fashionable to say "I'd rather have my kids watch two people make love than two people kill each other."

I'd rather have my kids listen to The Dead Kennedys or Sabaton or Iron Maiden or even Slayer than WAP. (To be fair, I love all those rock bands except for Slayer but you get the point.)

I'm glad someone posted this article and even a snippet of the lyrics. I hadn't heard about WAP but I just searched for the lyrics...wow..that might have made Zappa blush but Frank would NOT recommend censoring it - he'd want but the public to be fully informed. Thank you - I'm glad I know that this extreme kind of content is not just available but popular.

Tik Tok, something new to me and only because if the recent news with China, is famous for attractive white girls dancing to garbage music. One constant is when they lip sync, the wannabes cover their mouths when the N word is sung.

Funny thing about censorship...I have heard some of today’s “artists” talk about what they sing and how they have to tone it down (self-censor) once they’ve become a mom or a dad (”I’ve got a child to raise.”). I see more than a little bit of hypocrisy in this, as some entertainers come to realize the potentially deleterious effect of what they do on their own children, but don’t mind getting paid for adversely affecting yours.

Self-censoring used to be the practice of the day. We used to be able to count on adults not mentioning things “when the children are around,” not curse openly, etc. In a word, society used to conduct itself with more responsibility when it came to exercising their freedom to speak. Now, all filters have been removed. All speech is equal, “if you don’t like it, switch the channel, don’t buy the music, you don’t have to listen.” All the “responsibility” for your speech has fallen on me; I can’t count on you to be responsible any longer.

even fewer remember Murray The K with his
“Ah, Bey, ah bey, koowi zowa zowa”.
it’s probably racist to even remember that.
