The German agriculture minister has announced she will introduce a controversial new law that will require dog owners to walk their canine friends at least twice a day, for a total of at least one hour.
The rules would also forbid owners from tying up dogs for long periods of time or leaving them alone all day. Around one in five German homes has a dog; over 9 million dogs are kept as pets in the country.
“Pets are not cuddly toys — and their needs have to be considered,” Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner said Monday. She said her ministry was acting in accordance with “new scientific research about dogs’ needs.”
Dog breeders will also be hit by new legislation: They will only be allowed to keep three female dogs with puppies at any one time. The minimum area and maximum temperature for dogs’ living conditions will also be further regulated. …

I’m a first generation American. Both my parents came over from Germany and I have citizenship rights that I’ll never invoke. I would never even think of living in the cesspool Germany has become. I consider myself 100 percent American.
I know folks aren’t thinking about winter, but imagine a day with a wind chill below zero in northern Germany—and now imagine you are a winter coat manufacturer’s lobbyist paying a few bribes to politicians in Germany.... :-)

Bad idea: A government law requiring dog owners to walk their dogs at least twice a day, for a total of at least one hour.
So what’s next?
It’s a good idea to eat a healthy breakfast. So why not a law requiring that? Perhaps everyone should submit a daily video showing themselves eating a healthy breakfast. Violators could be fined. Repeat violators could be imprisoned.
The Germans and many other European countries have a different approach, instead of if its not illegal you can do it, it’s you can only do things the law says you should do.
I’ll bet Stacey Abrams, Elizabeth Warren, Cher, and Maxine Waters are glad they don’t live in Germany.

They can always ship any excess dogs to North Korea. They will know how to take care of them.
Dogs need to be walked and socialized with the pack they know and love... not stuck behind chain linked 10x10 enclosures and kept like snakes in a cage.

You cannot regulate uneducated people. Good dog owners know they need their dogs need to be walk or exercise.

I have a small older dog that at most can walk about 20 minutes. If we walked him longer it would probably kill him after a number of days.
