I, Just This Week purchased a Vizio V-Series 50 HDR Smart tv. (V505-G9)
Here is my problem.
I'll be watching a program and the screen will shut off. (goes black)
There will still be sound but no picture!
Sometimes it happens when changing the channel!
Samsung not Sony
We have a Vizio 64in that did the EXACT same thing after about a year of use.
We gave up, put it into the box and in the garage it went.
I was cleaning the garage and asked my husband if I could get it out of there but then couldn’t bring myself to just pitch it and so I started reading...
Set it back to factory settings.
About 8 mos ago we did that and it’s going great.
Oh and https://support.vizio.com/s/article/Restoring-Factory-Defaults-on-VIZIO-TV?language=en_US
Doesn’t cost anything to try. :)
1. Check for update.
2. Return it ASAP
...if a box acts up right out of the box, you don’t want to wait until you have to deal with the manufacturer - use the store you bought it at to trade it for another one.
Youre right. I was mixing up USB and HDMI specs. 2.1 is the Current HDMI spec. As for cables... https://www.hdmi.org/spec21Sub/UltraHighSpeedCable
For 4K and higher resolutions, Dolby ATMOS audio, eArc etc., you really want newer HS specd cables.
I have a Samsung desktop monitor. It has gone black on occasion, and the solution has always been to wiggle the HDMI connector, or pull it and reinsert it.
Throw it out.
There’s nothing on.
Sheesh....
You nailed it, acting on any of these self proclaimed experts advice thats being tossed about is only impressing themselves & is fuitile and only wasting more time on a defective product.
If it was a brand new car would it be analyzed and troubleshot at home,NFW it would be back to the dealer ASAP.
Same thing here.
1) Skip Tech support as their job is to keep you from taking it back while wasting another day
2) Take it back yesterday
“For 4K and higher resolutions, Dolby ATMOS audio, eArc etc., you really want newer HS specd cables.”
1. These are the first ‘spec’d’ cables.
2. Notice that it says these cables are not required.
3. I am running 4k DHDR ATMOS fine on my old cables.
I can’t tell you all how surprised and grateful I am for all of these responses.
I honestly had no idea there would be so many! 8)
It will be impossible for me to thank and answer every response so I will try to do so here.
Yes, I am using the same HDMI cable that I used on my other tv.
(Never had a problem)
Yes, I have the same Verizon cable box.
(Again, never had a problem)
I am using cable and not over the air.
I use the cable box to change channels, not the TV.
There is no heat in the alcove where the TV sits.
Now, as for taking it back ... my lady and I are pretty high up in age.
The TV, even though it doesn’t weigh a ton, is up in an alcove and too high for the two of us to handle in getting it down from where it sits or loaded into a vehicle.
We are going to have to find someone to pay to help us and that is why I want to try everything else before returning it.
(TV)
Again, I can’t thank you all individually, I can only hope that each of you will read this and know that I have tried Thanking you here!
Thank You.
It was an online purchase from walmart so there is a copy on my walmart account page.
Truer words were never spoken. 8-)
At my age, mentally I’m almost there! 8)
(I know that’s not what you meant) lol
Close enough for government work. You ought to be able to take it back to the nearest brick and mortar store and have a new one shipped to you.
Thank You.
I have been told that by some others.
I hope it’s soon because the BH is getting more upset each time it happens.
BTW: I did a scan for a firmware update and there weren’t any.
My cable box remote does the channel changes.
The Vizio remote is for the sound, menu and internet options.
The Vizio I just replaced was over 12-14 years old, on all the time and never a problem.
I’m sorry.
My lady and I are at the age where we have to retire at the hour that we once got ready to go out to Party! 8(
I am trying my best to answer everyone now.
“What the hell ever happened to a retailer or manufacturer honoring their warranties in good faith, anyway? “
It is still there. All my warranty issues resolved easily. Some companies even go beyond their warranties.
With one month left on warranty, TV went pixelated. Called and was instructed to send photos.
Next day got voucher for full refund of $600 at Costco. Bought new one with same specs for $450.
Called Suncast because I couldn’t find o-rings for leaking five year old water-powered hose reel. Suncast sent FREE entire valve assembly.
Schlage sent FREE new double front door handle sets to replace 15 year old sets that were slightly tarnished.
