Was she cheating? Not in her view. She was "faithful" to me, because she never had any activity with another man. None at all. (Even with me, as it turned out.)
It turns out my ex preferred women. Strongly. She married me to keep her father in the dark about her sexual preferences. And, it turns out, from me once I got close to my father-in-law.
She successfully hid her torrid "girls nights out" for the entire marriage. I found out only after she left me.
What a fool I was.
Because men are so sexy.....

I think I understand your feelings about this book. I used to have some problems with it, myself. When I read it in grad school, Madame Bovary just seemed like a fool. She marries the wrong man; makes one foolish mistake after another; but when I read it this time, I just fell in love with her. She's trapped! She has a choice: she can either accept a life of misery or she can struggle against it. And she chooses to struggle.
Amen! Like my soon to be ex.
Shortly after coming home from our honeymoon, I thought I was being playful with my husband, and he said, and I quote, “I don’t want to have to chase you anymore. I got you.” When I noticed that he hadn’t said I love you in a few weeks, I said I missed hearing it. He said, “I told you before. That hasn’t changed.” It could have been a comedy routine if it hadn’t ended with multiple assaults. Assholes come in all flavors and sexes.
