Gold's Gym has become synonymous with the Hollywood Dream.
Set just a few hundred yards from the ocean in sun-kissed Venice Beach, Los Angeles, Gold's was the backdrop for Pumping Iron, the 1977 documentary which followed a young, unknown Austrian bodybuilder called Arnold Schwarzenegger as he prepared for the Mr Universe contest.
The film turned him into an overnight sensation. He would go on to become a global superstar, marry a member of the Kennedy clan, and become Governor of California.
Yet today Gold's sits amid post-apocalyptic scenes which have consumed much of LA, turning the City of Dreams into an urban nightmare from which people are fleeing in droves.
A makeshift tent city made up of flapping tarpaulins and cardboard boxes surrounds the gym on all sides.
Junkies and the homeless, many of whom are clearly mentally ill, walk the palm-lined streets like zombies – all just three blocks from multi-million-dollar homes overlooking the Pacific.
Stolen bicycles are piled high on pavements littered with broken syringes.
TV bulletins are filled with horror stories from across the city; of women being attacked during their morning jog or residents returning home to find strangers defecating in their front gardens.
Today, Los Angeles is a city on the brink. 'For Sale' signs are seemingly dotted on every suburban street as the middle classes, particularly those with families, flee for the safer suburbs, with many choosing to leave LA altogether.
British-born Danny O'Brien runs Watford Moving & Storage. 'There is a mass exodus from Hollywood,' he says.
'And a lot of it is to do with politics.' His business is booming. 'August has already set records and we are only halfway through the month,' he tells me.

People fleeing CA, OR, WA, NY, NJ for ID, CO, TX, NC, FL should not be allowed to vote for (at least) five years.
They won’t leave their politics behind, and it seems it’s fashionable for people fleeing California to go to Texas.
No, the Baptist churches in the midst of all that vice and squalor are outposts of Christ’s message of salvation. Some very brave pastors are working to save souls there.

This sort of demographic has always led me to believe that the liberal votes coming from the sunlit highlands in California (La, SF, Oak, SJ etc.) have been in large part due to their fear of the lowlanders going on a rampage against common sense social reforms. The Rats have no reason to cease their vote buying, as long as as it plays in the burbs and the bling neighborhoods.

None of this is an accident, mismanagement, or incompetence. Leftists are doing two things: 1) driving out remaining swing voters making the cities voter pools for a statewide socialist takeover (Venezuela Norte), and 2) dispersing Democrats into Republican voting areas to soften their next targets.
It would take massive coordination but a hostile takeover by investors could reverse the trend. First buy or option property in Democrat destroyed areas, then drive the socialists and their voters out. The real estate profits for succeeding would be huge.
The socialist leadership has a different profit plan: once possible, loot the place and transfer the cash into Swiss bank accounts, then leave the USA and live the high life. They know this is the only way possible for people like them to get really rich.

California’s AB5 made freelance work and musician sidemen jobs almost evaporate overnight. I read that an musician exception addendum to AB5 was in the works, but the CA legislature needs to get back in session.
