By this point, its pretty clear that one of the best things we can do to protect ourselves and others from the coronavirus is wearing face masks whenever were out in public. But its important to remember that this disease is still new, and scientists are still learning about it. And now, the CDC has updated its face mask recommendations, warning people that masks that have built in valves or vents arent actually effective in helping slow the spread of the virus.
One extremely popular model of mask that has a built-in valve is made by 3M. Its high-tech appearance makes it a type of mask many people have been choosing to wear as they go about their daily business. But this kind of mask is actually meant for construction workers to wear in hot and dusty environments. When it comes to slowing viral particles when the wearer exhales them? It doesnt actually work for that.
A brochure on 3Ms website illustrates how these types of masks actually work by allowing hot, humid air to escape through the valve.
The purpose of masks is to keep respiratory droplets from reaching others to aid with source control, the CDCs new guidance reads. However, masks with one-way valves or vents allow air to be exhaled through a hole in the material, which can result in expelled respiratory droplets that can reach others. This type of mask does not prevent the person wearing the mask from transmitting COVID-19 to others. Therefore, CDC does not recommend using masks for source control if they have an exhalation valve or vent.

The same time she took a breath through her feet..
Critical thinking is so hard to do these days.
But how many people are running around asymptomatic? That is the variable that no one uses in showing the risk of catching CV19.
And our current speed limits and speed laws are not designed to make sure no one gets, but to make it reasonably safe. Requiring universal masking because we assume everyone is asymptomatic is akin to setting the speed limit to 10 by assuming every driver is incapable of going fast than that.
... no one get *hurt*, ...
Almost everyone wearing an actual mask I’ve seen does so improperly with no air seal at all. Besides the virus is 3 microns in size and passes through everything except some N95 masks.
Bandanas are a joke best saved for robbing a bank.
Neither can I. I would hold the bottom of those masks out so I could get some air, otherwise, I feel like I'm going to pass out after only a few minutes. I have gotten a mask with the vents. It is that, or no mask at all.
What would the chance be if one person was wearing two masks and the other wearing none, on your poster?
In re the no shoes/shirt/service rule, isnt that up to the individual business? I dont mind that. If I really want to go somewhere barefoot I can go somewhere that doesnt have that sign.
The mask rules are government enforced Unpassed laws. They have cruelly deputized all the store owners to enforce it. World of difference.
Panty hose or nylons..yep. make one out of those for easier breathing and compliance with ‘rules’. As utterly useless as the paper masks and you can still breath. Easily washable.
No mask stops the spread.
“In re the no shoes/shirt/service rule, isnt that up to the individual business?”
Yeah. Pretty sure that isn’t a law.
It’s an escaped chinese bio-weapon - it’s not the flu.
I’m just waiting for the day Biden comes out having confused his mask and his depends.
