I got an interesting email from Microsoft.

Posted on 08/10/2020 10:58:00 AM PDT by LouAvul

They're emphasizing their ability to suspend all services and accounts of any user who violates their MS Services Agreement.

A rather lengthy list, but this statement caught my attention: "Don’t engage in activity that is harmful to you, the Services or others (e.g., transmitting viruses, stalking, posting terrorist or violent extremist content, communicating hate speech, or advocating violence against others).

I wonder who gets to define the above? What, exactly, will they consider hate speech?

Microsoft EULA/Terms ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to ShadowAce for the ping!

I have tried Mint and Ubuntu with the same result. They upgrade at frequent intervals and eventually an upgrade disables my system to where I cannot use it. Everything is frozen at the sign-on screen or I get nothing at all. My son who is a computer whiz can’t deal with it nor can the computer shop. I have long wished to get away from Windows but no luck.

I'm going to tell you straight up: dump Microsoft and go with Linux.

Many here prefer Mint Linux, it looks remarkably like Windows XP, gets frequent updates, runs very fast and doesn't need the latest greatest hardware to perform well.

Others like me prefer Ubuntu. Can be made to look like Windows XP/Windows 7 if you want it to, can be made to look like a Mac, etc.. Like Mint Linux it's very fast, gets frequent updates and improvements, and runs very fast while not requiring the latest & greatest hardware.

Whatever you do, get away from Microsoft.

My daughter gave me a Linux laptop and I really like it.
Screaming fast!

if I had to guess based on your post, it sounds like you’re not running an LTS version of Ubuntu. I’ve never had a problem with Linux LTS (Long Term Support) and I’ve been running Ubuntu since v. 13.

Glad you like it! I have Ubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.4.x.x running on a 9 year old Pentium D laptop. It has an SSD and 8Gb of memory. It's not the fastest thing in the world but it's damn' zippy for what it is. :-)

My fastest machine is an AMD Ryzen 3700x and the way Ubuntu runs on this thing is just damn' impressive. 1TB NVME drive for the OS, 32Gb 2400 Memory and an SSD RAID Array. Boots in just under 7 seconds from the time I push the power button.

Everything loads and runs so fast I never see a "Please wait ..." on anything. Good God I love fast computers!

If I could understand how to get Linux to run on my Windows 7 desktop I sure would. I tried a couple of times with Linux downloaded on memory sticks but without any luck. I couldn’t figure out what step I was failing to do.

Yes, millions refused to heed George Orwell's nightmare warning.

When I read 1984 as a youngster, I couldn't imagine how or why the people would tolerate such hell. I now know only too well--and am horrified.

It may not be in the EULA, but once you install Windows on your consumer PC, the “master cylinder” is in control and not you.

If you read your EULA you don’t own your copy of windoze... you are leasing it from them. SAS. Software as a service.

Software as a Service is something M$FT dreams about and have somewhat started with Microsoft Office 365 where you pay a monthly for for x seats.

They're not there yet with Windows. A "lease" requires the lessee (you) to pay a lessor (M$FT) a periodic payment, like 365.

I have heard vague rumors that the Windows version after 10 will require SAS payments.

Liberals already have the institutional power to define these terms. See the Associated Press Style Guide and Merriam Webster dictionary changing official definitions upon SJW demands.

I had tried Kubuntu.. but too many small issues added up.
I will eventually find something better (I hate rolling updates), but am satisfied for now (until I get back on my feet).

Obviously same to you...you won’t/can’t substantiate your comment and say believe it or not...

Why would I believe it when you can’t or won’t bother to substantiate it?

Perhaps the person posting a legit question/concern might be better served with a researched post rather than accepting that “half the planet got it...”

Every wonder wonder why people say don’t believe what you read on the internet??? If people take time to post facts with sources versus mere opinion stated as fact, everyone benefits.

It is your opinion...based on your opinion...Fine...Why not just label it an opinion?
