WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump signed executive orders Saturday for coronavirus economic relief, upending negotiations with Congress after lawmakers failed to reach a deal on Friday.
The executive orders establish a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year for Americans earning less than $100,000 a year.
They also defer student loan payments through the end of the year; continue eviction moratoriums; and extend enhanced unemployment benefits that expired last week, but at a reduced level of $400 instead of the prior $600.
"If I'm victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax," Trump said. "Joe Biden and the Democrats may not want that, they don't want that."
The orders, which Trump announced in a press conference at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, come after talks with Democrats over another round of assistance hit an impasse Friday.
Democrats promised last week to file a legal challenge if Trump acted through executive order to circumvent Congress, which has the constitutional authority to determine federal spending.
Trump brushed off those challenges Saturday, telling reporters "I guess, maybe they'll bring legal actions, maybe they won't. But they won't win."

K Street and the Bureaucracy already do all of their work, except for posturing in front of the Cameras and getting re-elected and re-elected.
Reelect Trump if you want America To Survive.

Starkly true. That’s pretty much where we are now. Its existential.
does Trump also realize he is financing BLM/Antifa terrorism? None of these pukes work
````
those pukes as you call then are well paid with free legal assistance, paid bail, paid medical, food, transportation, and lodging. Most have never worked a day in their short lives nor do they need to as many live off trust funds - some paying $40K a month or more.
I stand corrected: three of the four were Executive Memoranda; the fourth one was an Executive Order (the one for renters and homeowners protection).
No $1,200? That is unfair to us who pay through the nose for taxes. retired and not working.
Oops again; three were Presidential Memoranda, not Executive Memoranda.
I think it secures help the landlord and the tenant. not sure though.
You got it! Not much real work is done on Capitol Hill. The lobbyists and lawyers on K Street and think tanks do pretty much all the legislation and leave the preparation of meaningless resolutions to the congressional staff.
Congress also has the Congressional Research Service (housed in the Library of Congress) to do research and other chores for it. Its no wonder they never want to leave.
The good part is that the money they have to additionally borrow to cover their wanton spending is not posted to any individual.
You won't have to pay it back, only your progeny will likely be on the hook.
It'd be best to die before default...
I might have considered that if you had refined it to:
I think a simple majority of Trump Loyalists in the House and 60% in the Senate would enable significant changes.
And do you think that anything that Trump signs {or not} will have any effect on what a demonRAT will do when they get power.
They've already declared that the filibuster will be canned, {so I think if the pubbies get control this cycle, we can the filibuster and go balls to the wall}.
An Endangered Species.
You do realize that it varies by state, right? My girlfried gets a whopping $130 a week in MD benefits. She's gone back to work because she hates sitting at home. Is that alright with you?
And the only one the Government Swamp Bureaucracy persecutes rather than protects.
“Congress needs to be defunded and re-imagined...” <-——This
1200...
Possibly left on the table as a carrot for Dems. But he’s pretty well gutted them.
Thing is with the payroll tax, that 1200 is a bit of a double dip for unemployed and employed alike. It does leave out retired folks, but the argument is what impact has this had on them financially.
“I suspect it affects landlords cazy enough to sell their souls to Section 8.”
Anything other than higher end rentals is always a dicey proposition. Those reliable renters are always footing the bill for the serial evictees.
“I believe he just signed Executive Actions, not Executive Orders, a non-trivial difference.”
CNN says ‘orders” Washington Post says ‘actions’
which liar to believe.....
This is war! If Trump does not win our nation is finished. The Congress ceded presidents this kind of power over the decades because they didn’t want to make hard decisions. They are reaping this because they have no guts to actually make decisions. How many years now has it been that we have functioned on “continuing resolutions” and not actually passing a real budget? Vote Trump. Vote Republican. Our only hope!
“does Trump also realize he is financing BLM/Antifa terrorism?”
That is an argument not well considered.
Similar logic: Does Trump realize he’s allowing school shootings by being pro 2nd amendment?
