(CNN)Oprah says her latest book club pick "might well save us." So the media mogul is sending 500 copies to the nation's governors, mayors, CEOs and college professors. The book is "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents," written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Isabel Wilkerson. Oprah announced on Tuesday that it was her latest selection for her long-running book club -- and that it was the most important one yet.
"This is a book for all of humanity and it is necessary for people who are leaders in our country to understand the origins of our discontent and what caste really means," she said on "CBS This Morning," adding that she was sending the book to leaders across the nation. "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" examines race in the United States as a social hierarchy, with African Americans confined to the bottom. The book defines racism in the country as an American caste system, comparing it to social hierarchical systems in India and Nazi Germany.
President Barack Obama awarded Wilkerson the 2015 National Humanities Medal.

...because skin color is more important than knowledge, talent, and expertise.
Billionaires sure got it tough here.
Hey Oprah. You dont like America, gtfo! Go somewhere else permanently.
Those CEOS should be sent Dinesh D’Souza’s “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party”.
What a tightwad. She used to give away free cars.
Comparing India which has their caste system embedded in law (yknow - where its actually systemic) to the US is STUPID.
Oprah is an IDIOT. Always has been.
I don’t know what’s more infuriating, that this wench produced such outrageous garbage, or that the media and half of America will treat it like some sort of sacred document.
I wonder if that book would help level out my kitchen table?
And the bell curve I am ready for civil warII let the shooting begin
If only this was a country where a woman of color who started out with practically nothing could become a billionaire... Someday maybe, when all this caste injustice is finally eliminated.
SMH, someone tell Oprah her victim card is over the limit again.
On top of this, we had protesters BUSSED IN FROM GEORGIA Fri morning to walk the streets of Louisville chanting for justice (they want the cops involved in the Breonna Taylor case to be arrested, which if you read the details on the case, the chance of that happening are actually pretty slim. Hubs and I are fully expecting the shit to hit the fan once the cops are cleared.) we've had protesters here for weeks cause our shitty Dem state gov and equally shitty city mayor are wringing their hands over covid19 and not doing a damn thing to stop them. (it was just announced our upcoming State Fair is going to be closed to the public. We're fully expecting the upcoming Kentucky Derby is gonna get the same treatment) Most of Louisville's downtown businesses have had their glass storefronts boarded up for weeks, even one of our liberal radio personalities said it looked like a warzone. Sorry for the ramble, but it's been a very long last couple of months here and we don't see a good end in sight.
Damn, all the rich, successful blacks in the USA - NBA, NFL, music, the “arts”, law, medicine, education, politics, Oprah Inc. - are just invisible, aren’t they. They should be insulted by this plantation BS.
Is she still weighing her food cause if she is it ain’t workin.
My wife is a Louisville native. She is also a Kentucky Colonel. She weeps at what her hometown has become.
Her very existence belies the premise of her propaganda piece. When her name comes out in the Maxwell info we’ll see if blacks can get Greek citizenship too.
Isnt she named after Harpo, only spelled backwards?
But at least Harpo kept his mouth shut.
And where does “Caste” place a racist billionaire like Okra?
Yea, hubs and I are from Louisville as well, we're just outside it now and it hurts to see it this way.
I came here hoping to see an update on Louisville. I have family there but got off work too late to check in with them. If there is a ping list I’d like to get on it.
