Chicago will teach online only when school resumes in September, the mayor said on Wednesday, and New York City announced checkpoints at bridges and tunnels to enforce a quarantine on travelers from 35 states on a list of coronavirus hot spots.
The teachers union and many parents in Chicago had objected to a plan to allow students the option of attending class in pods of 15 pupils twice a week.
Local media reported that the Chicago Teachers Union had called for a strike vote over the issue. [ ]
Los Angeles has already announced that students will be kept home, while New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has said he expects to have children attend classes part of the time. [ ]
De Blasio told a news briefing on Wednesday the city will erect checkpoints at key entry points to ensure that travelers from 35 other U.S. states comply with New Yorks 14-day quarantine mandate.
Travelers coming in from those states will be given information about the quarantine and will be reminded that it is required, not optional, de Blasio said. Fines for not observing the quarantine order could be as high as $10,000. [ ]
Teams will be deployed at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday, he (Dr. Ted Long, who oversees the citys contact tracing program) said, to ensure travelers stop to complete a travel form.

So, time to furlough teachers, en masse.
Something good may come from this pandemic.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America - led by Comrade DeBlasio and the rest of the politbureau who are here to keep you safe comrade.
Can we start a hot war now?
Halt! Show me your papers please.
Actually, the kids just won’t be in school. Fat chance they stay at home.
So one of the parents must stay and work from home?
Bwa ha ha ha
Hey New Yorkers ? How you like communism now huh ?
Bwa ha ha ha ha !!!!
The fines might get a little higher...
.
Yes it is. We hate them and they hate us. And we’re not about to let them lord over us.
Escape from New York.
What an excellent time for more quality Charter Schools.
Im sure BLM is all over helping the innocent and under privileged with their money.
They’re moving to NH, ME, & VT. Rural property is suddenly attractive to them, although they probably won’t like their neighbors.
“What an excellent time for more quality Charter Schools.”
Don’t expect Charter Schools or Private Schools to be any better.
Just got a email from our school here in central NH stating that they are setting up “Hybrid Learning” for the coming year. Kids with last names from A-L can go to school on Mon-Tues, kids with last names M-Z can go on Thur-Fri. The other 3 days will be “online learning”
WHAT A F$%*ING JOKE!!!!
And, the kids have to wear masks all day except to eat at lunch. I’m sure my 6 yr old and her friends will comply with that .... NOT!
I checked out all the private schools in the area and thy are all the same: mask, ‘hybrid learning’ .... all BS.
Terrifying children and destroying their education all for an election is beyond EVIL.
Im wondering when well be seeing our school tax refund checks coming in.
You know, for all that time schools have NOT been open teaching the kids.
EVERY conservative (actually, it should be EVERY tax payer) that is living in a district where schools are NOT opening, and teachers are NOT showing up for work, should be DEMANDING taxes to be refunded/voided, for however long this continues.
#NoTeachersNoTaxes
I got my hair done a couple weeks ago here in NH and the haitdresser was telling me about the influx of NYCers. She said property is so hot now that there are actually bidding wars going on with houses and some of them are going for 20-30k more than list price.
I sure am glad that we made our move last year. I am so grateful for the property that we have.
With all the gang shootings in Chicago, you could probably make the case that going to school is safer than staying home, despite COVID.
Is your area (maybe all of) NH a lib area?
Can you maybe get a group/coalition of parents to fight this, with your headmaster/director of school?
This is absurd.
If not, can you get a refund and quickly form a homeschooling group?
I’m not being flippant....am honestly wondering if any of the above might be feasible, for you.
I’m thankful that you made your move, last year, too, dear metmom.
These people moving in, from NYC are the ones (obviously) not going back.
Cuomo’s ‘I’ll buy you a drink’ offer must sound especially petty.
