Our generations World War
30/07/20 | Phil K

Posted on 07/30/2020 3:33:50 PM PDT by Jakarta ex-pat

I listened to many stories of World War 2 as a kid. My grandfather served in the Merchant Navy, and I learned from him, my mother and her generation of rationing, the hardships endured and the bulldog spirit of the British and her allies who fought against the evils of Nazism. Over 50 years later, The Britain I grew up, and the world I enjoyed as my playground no longer exists. Sadly, it seems it was all for naught. Communism, which we thought died when President Reagan said, " Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" never dissipated. The dominoes fell, but not in the direction we were led to believe. The Media, education, sports, and almost everything we believed were bastions of liberty slowly fell.. I hope my kids look back at these times as I did those, for god save them and us if they don't.

I tend to agree.

The cries of CIVIL WAR II are all over Free Republic. And indeed the media, entertainment industry and politicians are all hateful anti-American idiots, but....

Hundreds of millions of Americans are living relatively peaceful lives, in spite of Covid 19, while only a few thousand are BLMing.

I agree with Victor Davis Hansen that this is more like the French Revolution. This is an internal battle with people who no longer share the ideals established at our nation's founding. It is not a fight with an external enemy.

If we want to blame anyone it would be conservatives who cajoled, harangued, or shamed their kids into only "sensible" fields such as engineering, corporate law, and medicine.

Since few if any conservatives went into teaching, journalism, government, the arts, media, etc. all of those fields were taken over by the leftists.

Yes, there are always a few brave conservatives who became professors or snuck into Hollywood, and a few organizations that provide them legal help to keep their jobs when they are found out, but that is nothing compared to the waves of progressives that have washed through the academies and board rooms over the past few decades.

We conservatives were too busy making money in practical careers. We spent time with our families rather than wasting it by going to silly city council meetings or joining boards such as the AMA or ABA. So all of those institutions became polluted with leftists.

In the short term we conservatives thrived. When the cities got too rough, we retreated to the suburbs. If the suburbs go south, then we will head for the hills complaining all along the way.

The "March through the Institutions" recommended by Gramsci would not have happened if there had been a counterforce.

At times some conservatives put up a good fight: The Moral Majority, the Christian Coalition, and The Eagle Forum had their successes in holding back the perverted progressive agenda, but ultimately all have failed.

We have lost every battle, so how do we expect to win the war?

Don’t be so down on Britain mate. I know from first hand experience how intrepid and determined the British military and national spirit is. I served with them in Germany. Oh wait...that was 50 years ago.

“The cries of CIVIL WAR II are all over Free Republic.”

Well, it is what it is.

We are in the early stages of a civil war, as those things usually go. It just hasn’t reached the level of a “hot” civil war; right now we are in the spitball stage. Can we avoid it “going hot?” I hope so. But right now it’s a coin toss. If it does go hot, it won’t look anything like the misnamed Civil War of 1861-1865. Rather, it will resemble the Spanish civil war of the 1930s, or the Balkan civil war of the 1990s. It may even look like the Russian Revolution of 1917 - 1923. If it looks like any of those, it will be VERY ugly and VERY brutal and VERY barbaric. No sane person would want to see that. But, we may have no choice, as it may be thrust upon us.

Thanks for the post.
Yes, we used to win battles, but we have forgotten what it is like to win.

“....or the Balkan civil war of the 1990s.”

This is where you are correct. There is no North/South divide here. There is no peasant revolution as was in France or Russia.

Balkanization. If Americans don’t understand that term now, they soon will. Urban vs. Suburban. Cities vs. Rural. Even within most states you will have Red Cities vs. Blue Cities.

Not all of California is a liberal hellhole for instance. Will Jefferson be a new breakaway state?

I will tell you this, as you already know. After Trump wins re-election, we will truly see widespread violence and insurrection. The likes of which make Portland and Seattle today seem like a Sunday School picnic.

My first cousin shot one down during the battle of Empress Augusta Bay (Bougainville). He was a gunner on a Crash Boat at the time. Died in 2018 at age 93...may he rest in peace.

According to his description the best I could come up with it was one of these...basically a Zero with floats, allied code name "Rufe". Not sure it was a Kamikaze.

Make no mistake, we are witnessing socislism’s failure and death...fall of the wall, fall of Soviet Russia,EU breaking up, Venezuela breaking down, Norkies starving to death, Argentina slowly destroyed, and socialist government’s ( both large and small) ALL operating in the red.
